Jerome Ferreira of Lot 4 Riverview, Ruimveldt, Georgetown, yesterday appeared before Magistrate Judy Latchman and pleaded not guilty to charges of threatening language and disorderly behaviour. It was alleged that on Saturday, May 11, at Lot 4 Riverview, Ruimveldt, he made use of threatening language to Shelly Miller and also on the same day he behaved disorderly at the East Ruimveldt Police Station. The defendant disclosed that the virtual complainant (VC) is the mother of his children. He told the court that they had been encountering some problems lately, and Miller had warned him that if he only looked at another woman, she would chop off his penis. He further claimed that she told him she would give him faeces to eat, since she had a problem with him purchasing food. He added that he was called to the station and when he tried to explain his side of the story an officer told him to shut his mouth and used indecent language against him. However, Miller stated that she has been experiencing a number of issues with the defendant for a long time. She told the court that she has been like a prisoner since she is not allowed to talk to anyone or keep any friends. She said further, that the defendant abuses her by calling her degrading names and threatens to kill her. Ferreira was placed on his own recognisance for the disorderly behaviour charge, and was placed on $60,000 bail for the threatening language charge. He was ordered to return to court on May 20. |
