No arrest in Bourda Market execution style killing

As investigations continue into the execution style killing of Stanley Lovell, the Police are yet to make any arrest. Lovell, 30, also called “Steve” of 64 Premniranjan Place, Prashad Nagar, Georgetown, was gunned down in the vicinity of Bourda Market on Saturday morning.

Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum told Guyana Times investigators are working on several leads and intend to thoroughly investigate the matter before any arrest can be made. He added that several persons, including family members, were questioned in connection with the case.

Guyana Times understands that the now dead man had told his mother he was fearful for his life. This fear stemmed from several threatening calls made to his mobile phone from unknown numbers.

When Guyana Times visited the dead man’s home, a relative indicated that his immediate family were not at home, and further  they do not wish to speak with the media.

This newspaper understands that prior to the shooting Lovell was reportedly in the company of a group of men when a bitter argument ensued.

During the argument, one of the men reportedly whipped out a .9mm pistol and pumped 13 bullets into the man’s body. 14 spent shells were subsequently retrieved from the crime scene.

Another man, Anthony Lall, 21, a cleaner of Bent Street, Wortmanville, Georgetown, also received a gunshot injury to one leg.

He have intimated that he was in the vicinity when he saw a “known” man walk up to Lovell and discharge a loaded firearm in Steve’s direction.

It was reported that Lovell had just left the Rio Sports Bar in the company of friends and went to a stall at Bourda Market to purchase breakfast.

He reportedly was sitting on the trunk when he was riddled with bullets.

Lovell, who was no stranger to the law, was charged for the murder of second-year University of Guyana student Dennis Edghill in February of this year. He was freed in June following lack of Police evidence.

If there is any truth in the above, then I am surprised why the Officer did not give his gun to the prisoner to go on a robbing and killing spree, compliments of the PNC/AFC

I still say that unable to control the crime situation, they, the PNC/AFC surely responsible for the deteriorating situation in Guyana.

FM

Correct asj. Also the Apnu/AFC supporters are equally responsible because they gloat about killing and robbing and rush to defend the criminals and victimized the victims. I know all of them by name.

Based on information received, the four men entered the Super Centre and requested a bottle of rum from one of the salesgirls. As the young lady took them to select the rum, one of the men reportedly whipped out a handgun and held her at gunpoint, while the others ordered that no one make a move. One of the men then approached the owner of the business, Lakranie Singh and demanded cash and jewellery. She reportedly told the men that she did not have money at home, but the men refused to believe her. As they continued with their demands, they started to assault the woman but she put up a fight. During the scuffle, she was gun butted to the head and other parts of her body. One of the men then threatened to shoot her if she did not take them into the upper flat of the house and give them the money and jewellery. Out of fear, the women pleaded with them not to shoot and said that she was willing to cooperate. The woman went into the upper flat of the house and handed over the money and a quantity of jewellery. Not satisfied, two of the men reportedly ransacked the house, but came up empty-handed. As they were about to leave, they demanded that Singh hand over the keys to her husband’s motor car. She complied and did as they requested. America Street Robbery, Terror attack…Suspect in custody, others being hunted – Crime Chief

November 5, 2015 | By | Filed Under News

One suspect has been arrested and police have received intelligence that points to the positive identification of some of the heavily armed gunmen who robbed and terrorized America Street money changers on Tuesday night.

Police Commissioner, Seelall Persaud

Police Commissioner, Seelall Persaud

Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum said, last evening, that the suspect who is in custody, is known to the police for being in gun robberies. He also confirmed that the police are pursuing suspects based on intelligence that have positively revealed the identity of several suspects. “We are also pursuing all avenues to apprehend them in the fastest possible time. While noting that a quantity of spent shells representing those used in the robbery as coming from high powered weapons such as AK47 and M70 rifles, he said there were also some 9mm spent shells removed from the scene. Based on police investigations thus far, three persons were robbed, including Ryburn Fraser, who lost $1.5M in cash and jewellery, Osafo Warde, who lost about $400,000 and another person according to police sources identified as Chief Mike who was relieved of his cellular phones. Meanwhile, yesterday the normally busy America Street was quiet as many of the money changers were visibly absent from their usual spots following Tuesday’s brazen armed gang attack. This publication counted five small money changers who were not keen on talking about the ordeal of the night before but all agreed that life goes on. Among the lot was one who had to run for his life the night before. He informed that “most of dem bannaz stay away today (yesterday) but I got to live. So I taking my chances, plus we got more police circling.” Another said that he couldn’t be bothered about the issue of the night before. “I wasn’t there and so I’m not bothered.” Among those absent was Ryburn Fraser who was relieved of $1.5M by the marauding gunmen. He reportedly “just passed by” yesterday but didn’t stay around for long.” Police Commissioner Seelall Persaud yesterday confirmed that a police investigation team was checking footage from nearby businesses following Tuesday night’s America Street robbery by a heavily armed gang.

The location where money changers were robbed one day later.

However while victims of the experience likened the unfolding to that of the Blackie 1999 situation  Police Commissioner Seelall Persaud begs to differ stating that he cannot make the comparison. “It is a robbery and the police are investigating.” The Commissioner confirmed that from early yesterday morning an investigating team was dispatched to the location to review footage captured on cameras from businesses in the area which will inform what action is to be taken. Addressing the expressed views of victims that there is a growing number of young men engaged in criminality, the Commissioner said he does not see a growing number of persons involved. “Right now we are about six or seven percent over where we were last year and we are below where we were in 2013.” The Commissioner said that while crime is a big chunk of general security concerns, steps are being taken to address the issue through a strategy that is currently being employed. “A big chunk of that is capacity building,” he said, and reiterated that by the end of 2015 there will be 1200 new recruits deployed in addition to a smart city proposal and the street camera expansion programme. “We are also bringing emergency services under one roof,” the Commissioner said. The force is engaged in constant training such as the just concluded Justice Society training investigators training programme. With more training happening on a daily basis, with more resources and more professional standards being applied, Commissioner Persaud assures that the Guyana Police Force will be in a better position to deal with crime.”   (Mondale Smith)

The PNC is getting a percentage from all robberies. When criminals are running a country, you would expect more government sponsored crime to happen throughout Guyana. Indians owe the piper and they have to pay up when they visit you, or pay with your life.

Woman disarms gunman, averts robbery

November 5, 2015 | By | Filed Under News

The Hussein family of Cow Dam, Bath, West Coast Berbice can hardly forget last Tuesday. Feroze Hussein, 34, a security guard employed by GUYSUCO, resides at 10 Cow Dam with his wife, Miriam, 32, a housewife, and his two children, aged 11 and eight. The day had begun as usual, and the family lapsed into routine. Mr. Hussein had already left for work, and the rest of the family had just settled into their routine when two young men walked in and enquired whether Mr. Hussein had left for work. A bruised, but composed Miriam related her story of how she kept her wits and was able to avert possible tragedy. When the two respectable looking men, both of whom appeared to be in their early twenties, approached the door, the first thought was they may have been employees of GWI. However, the moment one of the intruders asked for her husband, Mrs. Hussein knew that it was not a normal visit. She stated that she tried to buy time. She then told him that her husband was upstairs. The man grabbed her, struck her in the head, and was pulling her into the doorway since she was outside. At the same time the other intruder forced his way into the house onto the upper flat and demanded gold from her son who told the armed man that they did not have any. Even though bleeding profusely from wounds to the head, and to her face, the housewife tried to maintain her composure. She told the man that had she known that they were robbers, she would have cooperated with them rather than to put up a fight. However that did seem to work. She was concerned for the safety of her children. Mrs. Hussein related that she was stunned by some of the blows she received, and that it was during the struggle that she realised that the man was carrying a gun. She recalled trying to protect her face from the blows. However, with blood flowing profusely, she became fearless and was able to disarm her assailant. She was also able to knock him to the ground, and was really getting the better of him when he shouted to his accomplice, “Hi boy! Come!” At that point, Mrs. Hussein ran through the door shouting for thief. The men in turn escaped empty handed on their bicycles. According to Mrs. Hussein, the drama did not last more than five minutes. The matter was reported to the Fort Wellington Police Station, but up to the time of filing this report there were no arrests made. The investigation is continuing.

Some victims do act brave and fight off their attackers to save their children. If she had took control of the gun and shoot her attackers, she would still be charged with murder. It's ok for criminals to kill innocent people.
