Sad that this is the experience of visitors, and it appears that it is their own mattie black that they robbed. At least there was no discrimination in this case of black on black crime.

why did the Guyana Times 'letter writer' not have "Curwen" arrested?

without jumping the gun and blaming any one party for the crime, I will say this is the modern Guyana that we should now expect. There is much for the people to see on TV and on the internet. They learn fast, unlike the choke and rob tactics of some 30 years ago. I have always said that I no longer feel the love of the "New Modern" Guyana, I liked it when we were more pre 2000 and a bit laid back.  This type of crime is not unusual, I am sure it happens in other foreign countries, it is just that we do not hear or read of it much.
