Guyana concluded its participation in the Individual event of the XXV NLA Senior CASA in St. Vincent with a good showing on the Squash courts.
Guyana’s day got off to a good start with Victoria Arjoon defeating Alexandra Yearwood (TT) in four games to claim the Women’s Consolation Plate (9th). Taylor Fernandes continued the trend, winning the Women’s Classic Plate (5th) beating Eligh Bridgeman (CAY) in three games.
Jason Ray Khalil finished up the morning session with a grueling five game win over Jules Snaggs (OECS) to win the Men’s Classic Plate (5th). This was Khalil’s best finish at a Senior Caribbean Championships.
The evening session saw two Guyanese females battling for 3rd position. Ashley Khalil and Mary Fung-A-Fat, treated the crowd to some great retrieving and shot making with Fung-A-Fat, prevailing in four tight games.
The championships now move on to the team event, where the Guyanese hope to be strong contenders for the Men’s and Women’s titles. They already present a strong women’s line up with their top five players finishing in the top ten in the individuals. The Men’s team will be strengthened with the addition of National Champion Alex Arjoon, veteran Richard Chin and professional Sunil Seth who were all unavailable for the Individual championships due to work commitments.
The men’s team take on Jamaica today in their first match, while the women will play two matches against Bermuda and OECS.
