Plaisance Secondary and Marian Academy will clash in the final of the Youth Basketball Guyana National Schools Festival tonight at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall following victories in their respective semi final encounters last night at the said venue. Plaisance Secondary defeated President’s College 52-47 while Marian Academy saw off a torrid second half to register a 34-29 win over Government Technical Institute (GTI). President’s College dominated the early proceedings and led 24-19 at half time, but Plaisance Secondary rose to the challenge in the second stanza grabbing 33 points while President’s College got 23. Nigel Bowen registered a game high 24 points including 10 rebounds for the winners while Reuben Reid and Andrew Johnson had 10 each. Anton Fileene scored 19 points with seven rebounds for President’s College while Akeem Crandon made 14 with 11 rebounds and Kennon Roberts nine. Marian Academy made their intentions known from the opening whistle as they raced to sizeable lead finishing the 20-minute first half 22-06. However GTI reduced the lead considerably in the second half. They picked up 18 points in succession and with six minutes and seven seconds remaining, they were two points from drawing level. Marian Academy then scored their first point in the second half and went on to pick up eight more to prevail despite the courageous effort from GTI students. Timothy Thompson and Jether Harris scored 10 each while Jahleel Younge contributed nine for Marian Academy. Shamar Huntley grabbed 15 points with six rebounds for GTI.
