Today, members and supporters of Youth Movement Guyana, protested in front of the Ministry of the Presidency (MOTP) against the actions of David Granger, the illegal President of Guyana, in the oil and gas sector.
According to Youth Movement Guyana, “Granger has approached companies privately, in open defiance of the Procurement Act 2003. to arrange the sale of three million (3,000,000) barrels of oil.” Notably, according to media reports on the matter, the Oil Brokers were asked to visit Guyana for a “Face-to-Face” meeting with Granger.
Youth Movement Guyana stated that “Guyanese are not fools. We know that bribes and kickbacks cannot be discussed long-distance.”
The organisation contends that “The Oil Brokers were enticed by promises that this first deal was a ‘sweetener’. This Face-to-Face arrangement is corruption in a most brazen form. Guyanese must stand now or face the prospect of losing billions in revenue through the middlemen.”
Many protesters held up placards, which read “No Tender, No Contract”, “Face to Face is a National Disgrace” and “Stop the Corruption Now”.
