What do you guys think of the lyrics to that song?
Monday last,I played it at our music hour with our adult clients, it sounded great if i must say so myself. I then followed it up with Footloose what a switch eh?
There are over 80 known verses to that song. Cohen simply could not find the final mix. Interpretations of it ranges from the sombre John Cale's version( the first), to the sexual Buckley version or to the almost liturgical Wainwright's version. KD lang sang it as a victory or celebratory song of life ( and over cancer). Allison Crowe also has a wonderful version of it. Buckley's mix of verses is the most consistent cover and one we hear most often from funerals to weddings to Bar Mitzvas to a quinceañera or even a drinking party. It is a universal song. I play it often as well.
