There are two varieties of fish in Guyana that we call "Pakoo". One is the Pacu which looks like a big piranha and is found in the rivers in the interior. It is not carnivorous like the piranha and feeds mostly on vegetation. The other is the Pacuma, which is called Pakoo for short, and this one is mostly found on the coast at the mouth of the rivers flowing into the Atlantic. The Pacuma is a bottom feeder with a wide mouth and is probably the one that most coastal dwellers would be familiar with.
