10 BEST PICTURISED SONGS OF 2010:
Joginder Tuteja, IndiaGlitz [Sunday, January 09, 2011]

At the end of 2010, it all boiled down to whether 'Munni' was more 'Badnaam' or 'Sheila' was more 'Jawaan'. However the fact remains that these two were not the only two songs that made one hooked to the visuals. There were quite a few other songs that made one look at screen with delight as some of the tracks had dance at the core of it while a few others were all about picturisation rather than any steps on the beats.

10 BEST PICTURISED SONGS OF 2010:

Munni Badnaam - Dabangg

Undoubtedly the most popular song of the year, 'Munni Badnaam' was raunchy at it's best without an ounce of skin show (by 21st century standards). Malaika Arora Khan definitely knows when she needs to pump up the jam and she did that with style even as hundreds of men lusted after her in this song that got 'Dabangg' its crowds. A catchy tune did the rest and the song played on for the entire second half of the year.

Sheila Ki Jawani - Tees Maar Khan

More upmarket in appeal than 'Munni Badnaam', 'Sheila Ki Jawani' stays on to be a very close second with Katrina Kaif getting into a naughty avatar here. The song could have possibly surpassed 'Munni Badnaam' had the film being a big success. However the fact remains that if at all there is one number other than 'Munni Badnaam' that got on everyone's lips in 2010, it was 'Sheila Ki Jawani'. Despite its suggestive lyrics, the song appealed to everyone from the age group of 6 to 60.

Zor Ka Jhatka - Action Replayy

This is one song that could have travelled all the way if only a) it would have been promoted more extensively and b) the film would have been a success. Since 'Dhoom 2', Aishwarya Rai hadn't been in a grungy avatar but she did that here in style with 'Action Replayy'. This was a superb dance track with a catchy rhythm to boast of but sadly the song didn't traverse much distance. It was loved by all who saw it but would unfortunately go down as one of those songs that didn't just get its due.

Ainvayi Ainvayi - Band Baaja Baaraat

Bright, colourful, funny and full of life are some of the best ways to describe 'Ainvayi Ainvayi'. Quintessentially Delhi in its flavour and treatment, 'Ainvayi Ainvayi' was extremely catchy with dance steps that were innovative and not seen before. Both Ranveer Singh and Anushka Sharma brought with them the kind of energy that took the song to the next level. A hot favourite in weddings where there is ample band, baaja and baaraat, 'Ainvayi Ainvayi' can be expected to play for many more seasons to come.

Tere Liye - Prince

This was one song that didn't have a single dance movement per se but had such a lively and lavish picturisation to it that it was a hit from Day One. The song featured Vivek Oberoi with each of his three leading ladies (Aruna Sheilds, Neeru Singh, Nandana Sen) in various shades of romantic moments. There was skin show in abundance as well but all of it was in so much style that one never cringed. An infectious tune only elevated the proceedings and gave audience a pleasant love song to see and hear.

Pee Loon - Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai

If there is Emraan Hashmi, there has to be a chartbuster track round the corner. And when Emraan comes on screen, he doesn't dance; he just gets his face and subtle body movements do all the talking. It was evident all over again in 'Pee Loon' as well where he ensured that when he professed love to Prachi Desai, it looked so much real and romantic. Yes, there was a love making scene as a part of this song as well but what one remembers most is the part where the two just lie next to each other on a terrace while exchanging sweet nothings.

Thok De Killi - Raavan

Vigorous, ferocious, powerful, energetic, angry, menacing - all of this and more comes to mind on remembering 'Thok De Killi'. This is one track that will go down in the history of Mani Rathnam cinema as one of the most definitive picturised tracks that brought to fore the essence of his film. Abhishek Bachchan along with dozens of other dancers danced to the beats on this situational track which was addictive to the core and could have become a cult track had the entire film carried a similar spirit to it.

Fire - Kites

Ignored. This is how one feels about this special dance number of Hrithik Roshan where he came up with his best moves till date. Boasting of an innovative tune that had variations to each which made it special, 'Fire' also featured Kangna alongside Hrithik. Even though she played second fiddle in this situational track, Kangna could well have smiled from distance as she witnessed Hrithik's marvel when it came to his body doing all the talking while the dance floor burned. This was one track on which only a trained dancer could have attempted to wear his dancing shoes.

Dooriyan - Break Ke Baad

Yet another track that largely went unnoticed, 'Dooriyan' was picturised in a music video format and caught eyeballs in the first viewing itself. However for some strange reasons the song wasn't promoted extensively. This meant that this unique attempt of showcasing the lead protagonists (Imran Khan and Deepika Padukone) entering the leaving the frames (that were put together in split screen format) didn't quite see the kind of appreciation coming it's way which it actually deserved.

Title Song - Love Sex Aur Dhokha

For the days when it was promoted, the title song of 'Love Sex Aur Dhokha' was on everyone's lips. Just like the movie, the picturisation too wasn't set on a lavish scale. In fact there was a conscious attempt to give it a downmarket appeal by means of jarring lights, loud clothes and amateur dance steps. Still, the song worked and how as different moods of 'love, sex aur dhokha' were brought to fore on screen. This is one song that could well be playing for a much longer time in discotheques and clubs.
