Indian cinema in its due course has had many classic and cult films that once made cannot be remade. These films have such stature that we can’t see past what’s already on the silver screen as they are inked in the pages of Bollywood’s cinematic history with indelible ink.

Umm! Just a spin-off thought we had was, what if a few cults and classic films were set in modern day Bollywood. Who would be cast if these films were made in this era and not the ones they were made in?

And the result is this!

Replies sorted oldest to newest

1. Mughal-E-Azam (1960)

How about instead of Prithvi Raj Kapoor, Dilip Kumar and Madhubala we had Rishi Kapoor as Akbar, Ranbir Kapoor as Salim and Katrina Kaif as Anarkali.

2. Hum Aapke Hai Koun..,! (1994)

Though one cannot see anyone but Salman as Prem, we thought of versatile Ranveer Singh. And Anushka could be his Nisha.

What say? Uhuu-Uhuu!

3. Sholay (1975)

Umm! As Jai-Viru we couldn’t help but re-imagine Salman-SRK.

We agree Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra have no match, but these two Khans are worth a shot!

For firecracker Basanti our pick was Priyanka Chopra, Parineeti could play Radha, Nawazuddin Siddiqui could easily pull off Gabbar Singh and Irrfan Khan as Thakur Sahab.

Umm??

4. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge (1995)

If in Bollywood we can see someone do justice to Raj and Simran, we felt it could be the sizzling duo of Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone. Imagine Ranveer lipping, “bade bade deshomeinaisichotichotibaatienhotirehti hai senorita”.

6. Mother India (1957)

The super talented Vidya Balan has already paid tribute to Nargis on a magazine cover. And we see she fits the bill perfectly. As for her sons, how about Arjun Kapoor (Sunil Dutt) and Fawad Khan (Rajendra Kumar)?

One of the most difficult castings. Yash Chopra’s classic film starring Amitabh Bachchan, Rekha and Jaya Bachchan is one of the most revered films in Bollywood. So we had our doubts and picked not one but two sets.

Either Shah Rukh Khan as Amit Malhotra, Priyanka Chopra as Chandni and Vidya Balan as Shobha

Or

Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Katrina Kaif.

8. Karan Arjun (1995)

This Rakesh Roshan film is a cult film. Then we thought why not give it a new twist. We imagined Hrithik Roshan as Arjun and Sidharth Malhotra as Karan. And how about Madhuri Dixit as Durga Singh?

Sonam Kapoor could be Sonia and Sonakshi Sinha as Bindiya.

10. Aradhana (1969)

It is a really big task to step into Rakesh Khanna and Sharmila Tagore’s shoes. Hence we brought two powerhouse actors together in our heads. Aamir Khan and Kangana Ranaut!

11. Chaalbaaz (1989)

Double Dhamaka! Priyanka Chopra in double role, pulling off legendary Sridevi. Sounds fun! Sidharth could play Sunny Deol’s part and Imran Khan could be in Rajnikanth’s character.

12. Deewar (1975)

For this particular film, we feel Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn as brothers would do full justice. Akki could be Vijay Verma and Ajay could be Ravi Verma. And Dimple Kapadia as their ‘Maa’.

Ladies Jacqueline Fernandez and Kareena Kapoor Khan could reprise Neetu Singh and Parveen Babi’s roles.
