Rowdy Rathore (2012)

One of the biggest hits of 2012, Rowdy Rathore was a one man show in the looks of Akshay Kumar and set the cash registers on fire. The film was a back to back success after Housefull 2 and implied that Akshay had enough power in him to sail the film on his shoulders alone.

Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty (2014)

Some really bad choices, some career transformations and some share of pure bad luck, Akshay had to wait for more than a couple of years to get his third 100 crore grosser. With Holiday earning a super hit verdict, the film gave Akshay exactly the kind of momentum he needed at that point of his career. He had started making brave choices in the looks of Special 26 and Baby, hence he truly deserved the box office support all along.

Airlift (2016)

Having made to wait for more than a year for his fourth century, the results in waiting were thoroughly earned. While he did earn some success through films like Baby and Gabbar is Back in 2015, the films couldn’t enter the 100 crore mark. However, with an offbeat film with an undertone of patriotism, Airlift gave him the kind of push he needed. Akshay Kumar had finally become the entity who could warrant success on the name alone.

It probably had to do a lot with Akshay Kumar that despite Housefull 3 being a mediocre film at large, it didn’t have to struggle to earn 100 crores at box office. The film was quite a shift from the mood of Airlift and yet became a smash hit at box office.

The film that has now earned Akshay his much talked about hat-trick in 2016 places itself as one of the most powerful films as it took on a biggie like Mohenjo Daro. The kind of performance Rustom has put on board reflects the solid Akshay Kumar effect at the box office. Despite mixed reviews, heavy opponent and a real-life connect, the film went against all odds to score big.
