Eight days after sustaining a “sound trashing” allegedly at the hands of her reputed husband, Seekumarie Singh, succumbed to her injuries at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) early yesterday.
Singh, 40, of Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara (ECD) was brutally beaten by her reputed husband, “Budan” two Saturdays ago but was only rushed to the hospital yesterday after complaining continuously for abdominal pain.
However, this action was apparently too late, as she eventually succumbed while receiving treatment. Despite the circumstances surrounding her death police are treating the matter as a murder.
Singh’s reputed husband has since gone into hiding.
But police have arrested a man who was said to be a friend of the dead woman, after they were informed that he too was a constant abuser.
Singh had sustained an injury to her forehead, swollen eyes and black and blue marks were visible on her skin. This publication was told that she was kicked a few times in her abdomen.
According to information, Seekumarie and “Budan” lived together for a number of years. “Budan” is a fisherman and would spend almost two weeks at a time away from home. Kaieteur news was informed that in his absence, Singh started another relationship a few months ago with another man.
“Budan” learnt about the relationship about two months ago.
Two Saturdays ago, “Budan” returned from sea and was spending time with Singh when the beating allegedly took place.
Singh subsequently fled the home and went to her male friend and complained to him about the “beating” she received from her reputed husband.
She stayed with the friend and after crying out for severe pain, he rushed her to the hospital where she died.
A post-mortem would be performed on the body today.
