The woman who was arrested for allegedly making death threats against President David Granger on Facebook will be charged under the Racial Hostility Act.
Stabroek News was reliably informed that advice was sought and it was recommended that the Bibi Safaora Salim face three charges under the law.
Under the Racial Hostility Act, perpetrators could be charged for attempting “to incite excitement, hostility or ill-will on grounds of race.”
Salim, 52, of East Bank Essequibo, was arrested on the morning of March 31, along with her son who had allegedly created her Facebook account for her.
Her son was released on station bail the said evening and Salim the next day.
Stabroek News was previously told that she provided investigators with a statement in which she denied making the threats.
