This happens all over the world, not only Guyana, even here in the great USofA.

Anyhow, I do believe the Govt should codify and regulate mini-buses for passenger use.  Only particular bus types should be licensed and drivers need to be better trained and strict driver licensing rules implemented.  Drivers should also have a 3 strikes rule by which the Govt could take away their permit.

Of course, if the Govt acts one can expect the opposition and the bus drivers to make a huge rockus.

Where in the USA is it possible for a vehicle operator to cuss the passanger if they complain the music is too loud. I was once on a buss from NY to philly and the air conditioner did not work for part of the way the passengers demanded their money back and got it!

Baseman is on the money, whenever the GoG try to implement laws to curb illegal mining, illegal vending, electricity stealing, illegal squatting, illegal driving, the afc/pnc take the opposing side and sympathize with the offenders. This has been seen time and time again over the years as they pander for votes from those who break the law, oftentimes portraying them as victims.

Don't buses crash in the USA and people suffer or die?  The issue here was the accident not the other crap you hauled in.  BTW, the Govt have implemented a rule on stereos in buses in Guyana.  The days of boom-boxes on wheels are long gone.  However, its true, bus safety is an issue in Guyana.  I will not argue with that.

Indeed they crash. However, they are crammed beyond capacity with people, horribly noisy and  the operators are discourteous brutes. Also, there should be a ban on this kind of vehicle as commercial passenger vehicles.

That is what I said in my post.  But if the GoG does, you can expect the like of you, the PNC goons and the katahars to lead protests and marches, inciting mayhem and destruction because some Afro bus drivers will be impacted.

I ask you, would vehicle-type codification, driver training, and general rules around passenger buses not help improve safety and other ills of bus travel?  What was so wrong with my statement.

Guyana's roads are too small for the speeds these vehicles travel.

Are these vans/buses checked to see if they are really road worthy?

Are the drivers checked to see if they are road worthy?

Last time I visited I travelled the East Coast heading for Berbice where I saw items being dried on the roadway on zinc sheets, this should never be allowed.

You think the word "Kurass" is vulgar. Probably if I said Kur BT it might have been OK with you. Don't flatter yourself. You ask stupid questions. THe question you should ask yourself is what has your PPP done these past 20 years to curb these accidents.

Your sitting on  the fence when I confront you with facts reminds me of Alice and the Cat and her conversation with him at the fork of the road.

"Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here?"
"That depends a good deal on where you want to get to," said the Cat.
"I don’t much care where--" said Alice.
"Then it doesn’t matter which way you go," said the Cat.
"--so long as I get SOMEWHERE," Alice added as an explanation.
"Oh, you’re sure to do that," said the Cat, "if you only walk long enough."

I heard you committed adultery in Guyana multiple times. Is that allowed by your book? Isn't that a sin against your better half?

GT and all along the coastland stinks. Trash is all around and very little is done to clean up the place. An american professional who had to visit often due to her work there, once said that she thought that the smell was due to the fact that the coastland was over 6 feet below sea level and water table was so high and the stink was actually a combination of sewerage and trash and poor sanitation on the ground.I think she is right.

The capital should indeed be moved as early as possible. Brazil and other countries did it successfully.

The construction going on in Georgetown by the private sector shows that people have forgotten about the flood. However in terms of the garbage and smells, moving the capital will not affect the situation, the people have to change their habits of dumping wantonly and police need to enforce the litter laws. I was down there recently and did not experience any of these smells that you or your American friend claim.

Would you agree, with proper drainage and irrigation this situation could be alleviated?
