Roopnarine should be ashamed of himself for supporting these hooligans.
They have a right to be in the streets and nothing they did could be termed hooliganism. Time Magazine celebrated the Protester and the person of the year because it took courage for the Arab spring, to shut Putin up and now the PPP is being reined in. These are Guyanese citizens participating in a time honed civic exercise.

But Time did not highlight those Afro-American protestors who were beaten by white policemen for protesting on wall street...or is that kind of protest bad.i.e. protesting against the greed and murder of white imperialists.

They did not have the permission from the police to march. It was illegal.
Don't tell me about rights. Rights do not mean you can break the law..

Did Time Magazine support the call for the boycott of businesses owned by mostly one ethnic group?

D2, these Drugdeo's PPPites don't know the difference between non-violence protesting and street violence. It is a shame only dunces, drug dealers and a few smart ones left in Jagan's PPP party.

Yeah they probably left in you kaka hole. How about if you stick to the title of the thead which deals with the APNU's boycott of businesses mostly owned by Indo Guynese and their lie about not calling for a boycott when the evidence proves otherwise

Do you know why most businesses are mainly indo. Because Burnham made it that way. He may have robbed you of flour but never denied you of the ability to run your business. Thanks to him blacks are dependent on indian businessmen. If LFSB were really that bad he would have taken away all your control over the $$$ ... so in some respects he was thoughtful and careful about how he rigged the elections. But he never denied you athe ability to become venture capitalists. Lots of indos made their money under the PNC.

I have very little care for all the exigent circumstances you have ascribed to it. The list was compiled by Randy Storm with certain things being in mind.
Is Randy part of the Youth arm of APNU?

Yes!
Then pick it up with him. I am not here to defend Randy. I explicitly heard of a call to boycott businesses by the APNU youth arm and two main businesses were mentioned ... Hits and Jams and the Football federation. If I am not wrong the Football federation is run by a black man. Here is his picture bragging about voting for PPP when cameras are not allowed in polling stations.

Notice the X by his cup. Time to X him off the shopping list. He gets coal for christmas. Big Grin

I have nothing against his choice of vote ... but to put it on facebook ... that's a little over kill. He's with the party shooting rubber bullets at granny and word is that he's cozied up with the PPP leadershipr that's how he made his dollars (wasn't he at the inauguration along with Shawn Hinds) ... plus there's talk of him being involved in a few illegal runnings ... it's time to put him on ice.

Didn't Gail ask the citizens to put drug dealers on ice and boycott their businesses a few years ago? Didn't Jagdeo ask the people to boycott stabroek news and Kaieteur news a few years ago?

What goes around comes around.

Its his democratic right..........

That same right which you and your party denied thousands of Guyanese for 28 years. Now you're attacking the fella for his feeling of freeness to express his right which you folks restricted for so many years. That's why the APNU is the PNC

It's his right no doubt about that but it brings attention to his underhand involvement with the PPP. He exposed himself and so he was victimized. Sometimes you get what you ask for, especially when you never foresaw a minority gov't coming.

"a time honed civic exercise" that lacked justification and credibility in this instance. Without realizing it, these idiots are playing right into the hands of those who would forever like to have indians tethered to the coat tail of the PPP. Had the PNC/APNU not being so transparently afrocentric and racist in their body politics, I seriously doubt that Indians would have condone or countenance the degenerative and corrupt ways of the PPP as long as they did. The flip flop here is ample proof of an ill conceived and unjustified tactics by morons and hoodlums propelled by habit and base instinct.
FM
Unfortunately taking to the streets puts a bitter taste in one's mouth with regards to the PNC.

But ... was there any violence, was there any looting and burning even after rubber bullets were fired. In my opinion it made the people stronger knowing they could march within their rights and not create mayhem. This only proves that when they ask for a permit to march in the future they should not be denied. Marching is a constitutional right.

The point is, if Indians can see what was a peaceful exercise of a civic prerogative as reason to take to the skirts of the PPP then they are not being reasonable. Further, this protest is not unexpected. It is what happens at elections time and what is predictable. The good thing this time is there were none of the habitual violence.

The PPP and the PNC are the same in terms of how they look at the world. If the PNC gets there with the same autocratic powers they will steal. To view any exercise on one side or the other as reasonable is itself unreasonable. One therefore let the exercises and the rituals and the processions play out and hope that in the act of decision making in the new circumstance, the expected adversarial relationships distill some reason.

Again, I care little about who claim and hold sacred their sense of victimization. If truth be told, the majority claims of these two groups subverted and subjugated the only group with natural patrimony in the state. Their greedy grasping practices marginalized these people and ignored Annex C of the independence agreement completely. The corrupt PPP as the PNC before them. insist that they have too much land for their numbers ( as if we asked so many to come!)

We therefore need reason, fair government, a balanced system and a constitution that will not allow any racial group to exercise authoritarian power. I care little for the sentiments of Indians if blacks take to the streets. Their fear is the reason blacks are there as well since it is their fear of Indian dominance that motivates their actions. We have to take the racial motivations out of politics and convert it into communal conversation spaces.

The PPP did not see fit to take us into an new era. They accept the fact blacks will take to the streets and saw that as a minor inconvenience and one they can control hence the regimentation and water cannon in advance of the election. The idea that blacks in the streets means a reversion to the dominance of the PPP is simply playing the same game.

The dynamics has changed. There are three parties in a plural arrangement. Decision making in pluralities can stalemate or they can do wonderful things. I am betting on wonderful things

The APNU won big. They won the right to demand accountability and get a response. The PPP lost big because they are now held to standards set by their compatriots on the other side of the isle. There is no going on to get along. The people's lives hopefully will see a difference so they are not going back to the same lives as impotent powerless citizens living at the whims of a corrupt PPP
