Call your elected officials.
Tell them you are their constituent, and you oppose SOPA and PIPA.

Why?
SOPA and PIPA put the burden on website owners to police user-contributed material and call for the unnecessary blocking of entire sites. Small sites won't have sufficient resources to defend themselves. Big media companies may seek to cut off funding sources for their foreign competitors, even if copyright isn't being infringed. Foreign sites will be blacklisted, which means they won't show up in major search engines. SOPA and PIPA build a framework for future restrictions and suppression.

In a world in which politicians regulate the Internet based on the influence of big money, Wikipedia — and sites like it — cannot survive.

Congress says it's trying to protect the rights of copyright owners, but the "cure" that SOPA and PIPA represent is worse than the disease. SOPA and PIPA are not the answer: they will fatally damage the free and open Internet.

Why is protecting intellectual property a bad thing? If the bill is poorly written, then these mega sites that are protesting should fund research to ensure the proper information as to how to forge these laws are in place. Google can be happy with no laws as its product Youtube can continue to have a policy of no policing of content. Piracy has killed the music industry and threatens to do the same to the movie industry and publishing. I would hate for books to go the way of music. Note, only crappy musicians like Bieber are on the music scene since no one is developing the Joss Stones or the Mariahs. Most of the stars of late are reality show constructs from Idol and the genuine article never makes it since piracy killed development money.

Absolute nonsense. Let the govt police if they want to.
The government is not responsible for conduct. We cannot legislate responsible conduct. We can legislate rules for determining the quality of conduct. This idea that we cannot know what is appropriate behavior in our own money making enterprises is nonsense. It is the cost of doing business.

Then the government should stay away and look at themselves in the mirror. Govt legislating rules of conduct is laughable. Freedom of expression should not be their domain. This is not about copywright; it is about control.

Are you an anarchist? What silly commentary! Why is demanding accountability for housing stolen property an infringement of rights or control? I am sure you would not want anyone pilfering the contents of your house and selling it on craigslist without you having a means of recourse. You would want to be able to demand some accountability ie craigslist post rules that it will turn over ip and Geolocaton information to the police in event anyone see their personal possessions being vended on their site. The same would happen and has happen and we legislated for it to happen from time immemorial in the real world.

This is EXACTLY why we have a wall street protest and unrest all over the world. Government pandering of the wealthy.
Do you think this bill is to protect the poor artiste from copyright infringement? There are already laws in place to address this in the courts. This is about control and pandering to the multibillion corporations. Let them police if they want to.

You are extrapolating beyond the point. Wall Street thievery is a different discussion. There some 3 trillion ended up in the hands of a few and indeed no one is looking into it that I know of. Nothing like the ENRON investigation is visible but who knows. Someone ought to pay indeed and to date none has.

This is however a different kind of thievery and ought to be addressed no less than the Wall street and tax legislation.

But we are dealing with this one not wall street. I made a comment to this and not to wall street.
