US Navy Commander Sunita Williams was born in Ohio to Deepak Pandya and Bonnie Pandya. Sunita is a (Gujarati) Indian-Slovenian American.
She is now on a 4-month mission to the International Space Station. She is being accompanied in the mission by Japan Aerospace Agency astronaut Aki Hoshide and Russian cosmonaut Yuri Malenchenko.

That would be Kalpana Chawla. She was an engineer and pilot who joined NASA as a researcher and later joined their astronaut program. Sunita Williams is from the US Navy where she was trained as a US Navy test pilot.
