Nearly two weeks ago, on September 3, Guyana's star cricketer of the 1950s-60s celebrated his 80th birthday.
In GNI Sports Forum Demerara_Guy posted an article by an Indian columnist that gives a summary of Butcher's track record. To date no one commented on that post because, I suspect, no one realized the article was meant to be a tribute to the popular batsman on his 80th birthday.
We must remember our heroes. Basil Butcher is one of them. He played in 44 test matches on the West Indies team from 1958 to 1969. He also played in the Guyana national team against Trinidad, Barbados, Jamaica and the other islands.
Belatedly, I'm pleased to start this thread on Social so all GNI members can say a word or two about a fellow Guyanese who made us all proud.
