Music is an integral part of any Indian movie and gives it extra appeal. The songs in Bollywood movies are normally pre-recorded and then lip-synched by the actresses and actors.

The voice heard by the audience is usually the voice of a proficient playback singer. For many cinema-goers in India, it is a double pleasure watching a favourite actress and hearing a favourite singer simultaneously.

“Audiences flock to the cinema to watch a movie at times just because of one song they’ve heard. A big part of its success and appeal is the music – the songs and music are the soul of the movie.” said Asian Network presenter Noreen Khan, who was also on the shortlisting panel.

Bollywood churns out hundreds of films every year and has a global reach. Popular Hindi film songs have been played repeatedly in clubs, parties and Indian weddings around the world.

ASJ, This Hoopla is not user friendly. I am having a tough time to post these Youtubes inserts / videos. The posted videos are floating over the new ones and I am unable to see my "Submit Reply" button. I have to fool around with the scrolling and when I do get it, it just seems to take forever to post and seems to freeze up my screen.

Happy Birthday Bro, many more to come.

There are so many great songs that did not make their list, one who know their songs would easily pick out another 100,  but nevertheless there are some great songs in that list of 100: Maybe one day GNI bollywood Section will get in as much as possible, for the listening pleasure

Always thought that the song from the movie, Dulari Suhani Raat would have made any list, but it was not to be.

Songs like O Duniya kay rakhwale: Songs like Laaga Chunri ne daag, and their is another long list that I can name. Another generation and there will be "another greatest song or another greatest 100 songs"

It's important to note that this song-compilation was done by current living residents of the UK of Asian origin, and not by Indians world-wide.

Thus it is easy to understand why songs like Suhani Raat (Dulari), Chahunga Meh tuje (Dosti) or Aaj Kal meh dal (Beti Bete) are not in the top 10.
