In these times, anyone speaking against the "pandemic" is seen as an anti-vaccer which is a very stupid word spoken by very stupid people. I have been the recipient of monthly eye injections, yes injections on my dam eyeball. These injections were around for many years, the so called vaccine for the many names Covid, Covid the sequel and whatever names put on this flu, is only now being tested on countless millions.

‘Brought to You by Pfizer’: Pharma Giant Spends More on Ads, News Sponsorships, Than Research

“Good Μorning America is brought to you by Pfizer.”

“CBS HealthWatch, sponsored by Pfizer.”

“Anderson Cooper 360°, brought to you by Pfizer.”

“ABC News Nightline, brought to you by Pfizer.”

“CNN Tonight, brought to you by Pfizer.”

These are just some of the many recent examples where Pfizer has sponsored prominent television news and information programs on American television.

Shared by journalist Whitney Webb, these clips, at face value, are demonstrative of a company aggressively pursuing a marketing and public relations campaign by means of sponsoring popular news programs.

But is there more to it than mere marketing?

In a recent segment on his online talk show, commentator and comedian Jimmy Dore ran off a list of recent headlines published by CNBC.com, presenting Pfizer in a positive light. Dore capped the segment off by presenting a recent tweet posted on CNBC’s official Twitter account, again portraying Pfizer in glowing terms, accompanied by the text: “paid post for Pfizer.”

Dore quipped, “How much critical coverage do you think they’re going to give Pfizer?  Pfizer’s literally paying their bills.”

As recently highlighted by the Wall Street Journal, Pfizer — and other pharmaceutical companies — have not restricted their sponsorship campaign to news show segments and paid tweets.

For instance, a recent skit delivered by late-night network television comedian Jimmy Kimmel about COVID mRNA vaccines was sponsored by Moderna.

And a March 2021 tweet by Pfizer expressed pride in the release of a National Geographic documentary, “Mission Possible: The Race for a Vaccine.”

Even in this author’s country of residence, Greece, the influence of such a sponsorship and media relations campaign is evident. The aforementioned CNBC tweet, paid for by Pfizer, touted the future possibilities promised by the mRNA vaccine technology, including curing cancer.

Just two weeks later, the front page headline in a Sunday edition of Kathimerini, Greece’s newspaper of record, touted the forthcoming potential of mRNA vaccines to cure cancer. This piece was accompanied by an interview with Uğur Şahin, CEO of Pfizer’s partner in the production of its COVID vaccine, BioNTech.

It should also be noted that Pfizer’s CEO, Albert Bourla, hails from Greece.

Advertising the COVID vaccine

On television at least, Pfizer’s sponsorships of news programs and advertising spots have, up until now, not mentioned its own COVID-19 vaccine by name.

For instance, one television ad produced by Pfizer features people spending time with their loved ones, while rhetorically asking the audience “Why will you get vaccinated?”

Another Pfizer advertisement shows a baby announcement, presented as a reason to get vaccinated.

Many of these advertising campaigns began earlier in 2021, when the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine was first rolled out. But many analysts in the advertising industry believe a bolstered marketing push will follow now that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has granted full approval to a Pfizer COVID vaccine under the name Comirnaty.

Some analysts do not see a clear short-term benefit for this marketing campaign. But Pfizer’s goal may be long-term in scope: If annual or semi-annual COVID boosters become a reality, Pfizer may be gearing up to place its name ahead of the competition.

Pfizer’s advertising push is evident in its most recent quarterly report, for the second quarter of 2021. The report indicates a 10% increase in “SI&A expenses,” which include marketing and advertising, for the first half of 2021, as compared to the same period in 2020, when there was no COVID-19 vaccine available.

This overall figure includes an increasingly important aspect of pharmaceutical advertising campaigns: social media.

In 2020, Pfizer spent $55 million on social media advertising. As of early May 2021, the drugmaker was on pace to exceed its 2020 expenditure, having already spent $21.5 million on social media advertising since the beginning of the year.

Overall, according to the Kantar Group, digital ad spending by pharmaceutical companies jumped by 43% in 2020. In sum, pharmaceutical ad spending totaled $6.58 billion in 2020.

In 2020, Pfizer spent approximately $1.8 billion in advertising, down almost $600 million from its 2019 outlay ($1.9 billion). The year 2019 was itself a down year, as Pfizer had spent $2.28 billion on advertising in 2018, a year where the company was the highest-spending Big Pharma advertiser.

Going all the way back to 2009, Pfizer’s annual advertising expenditure was already in the $2 billion range.

While much is made about the need to “follow the science,” it has been pointed out even before COVID came onto the scene that Big Pharma spends much more generously on its own advertising, as compared to research and development expenditures.

A 2019 Forbes article, for instance, reported Pfizer was spending twice as much on selling than on research.

Why does U.S. allow Big Pharma ads?

In a global context, the U.S. is an anomaly when it comes to pharmaceutical advertising. The only other country where such advertising is permitted is New Zealand — a country that has become known for its draconian COVID-related lockdowns.

Pharma advertising was authorized in the U.S. by the FDA as far back as 1938, following the passage of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act. In 1962, Congress formally granted the FDA statutory authority to regulate prescription drug labeling and advertising.

In 1969, the FDA issued its final regulations for prescription drug advertising. These regulations state ads must not be false or misleading, must present a “fair balance” of information describing both the risks and benefits of a drug, must include facts that are “material” to the drug’s promoted uses, and must include a brief summary mentioning every risk described in the product’s labeling.

Since then, the FDA has further relaxed its regulations, in 1995 and in 2004. This relaxation led to a boom in pharmaceutical advertising. And, as regulation has loosened, the number of enforcement actions taken by the FDA has also declined.

Top of Form

In the U.S., pharmaceutical marketing has typically taken the form of direct-to-consumer advertising, intended to promote prescription products directly to patients. This form of advertising can be broken down to three main subtypes: product claim ads, reminder ads and help-seeking ads.

Product-claim ads promote prescription drugs under their brand name. Under FDA regulations, drugmakers are required to list risks and side effects as clearly and prominently as the benefits of the drug.

Reminder ads name a drug, its dosage form and possibly its cost — but not its uses, which also means drugmakers are absolved from having to list the potential side effects and risks.

The third category, help-seeking ads, doesn’t recommend a specific drug, but instead is intended to raise awareness of a specific disease, or a vaccine or other cure. While such advertisements cannot mention any specific drug, they can incorporate logos or marketing symbols of pharmaceutical companies.

Proponents of pharmaceutical advertising point to the potential benefits of raising patient and public awareness, and promoting dialogue with doctors and medical providers, removing the stigma that may be associated with certain diseases, and encouraging competition and (in theory) lower prices.

Critics argue however that such advertising misinforms patients, overemphasizes the benefits of such drugs, promotes new drugs before they have developed a proven safety record, encourages the overconsumption and overprescribing of pharmaceutical products, increases costs and is not regulated as rigorously as necessary.

Indeed, there have often been calls to ban direct-to-consumer advertising. However, U.S. courts  have consistently held that such advertisements are a form of “commercial speech,” protected under the First Amendment.

Many of Pfizer’s recent vaccine-related advertisements and sponsorships appear to fall into the category of help-seeking ads. By not mentioning a specific product, but instead, more broadly raising awareness of vaccine availability — albeit with Pfizer’s name and/or logo featured prominently — Pfizer may expect to reap indirect benefits through increased vaccination rates and changing the minds of those who may be reluctant to be jabbed.

By “sponsoring” television newscasts and information programs, though, Pfizer (and other pharmaceutical companies) may also be intending to do more than merely increase vaccination rates: They may wish to influence news coverage by these media, skewing such coverage in their favor in any number of ways.

Moreover, by not advertising their vaccines by name, Pfizer-BioNTech and other drugmakers are not obliged, under current regulations, to rattle off a list of potential side effects associated with the vaccine, which would certainly do those companies no favors in the face of widespread vaccine hesitancy and criticism.

Cue Jimmy Dore once more, from the same aforementioned segment: “We know that the media is horrible because they’re owned by the people they’re supposed to be investigating and exposing, right?”

Investigative reporter Jon Rappoport, who has written extensively on COVID-related matters since early 2020 and on the medical industry more broadly, told The Defender such phenomena are not new:

“It should come as no surprise that a drug company is influencing the news. Pharmaceutical companies buy the news with their commercials, mainstream news outlets will report on individual drug scandals now and then, but they will never indict the whole industry. For years, I’ve been highlighting a devastating review published in the Journal of American Medical Association on July 26, 2000. Titled, “Is U.S. Health Really the Best in the World?”, it was authored by a revered public expert at the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health, Dr. Barbara Starfield. Starfield concluded that, every year in the U.S., the medical system kills 106,000 people as a result of the administration of FDA-approved drugs. That’s a million deaths per decade.

“I interviewed Dr. Starfield in 2009, and she confirmed there was no comprehensive government program to fix this ongoing catastrophe. Have you ever seen a major news outlet cover the Starfield report or its implications? Of course not. Among other consequences, their drug company sponsors would suddenly pull out their money. The fix is in. It’s been in for a long time.”

Urgent: 3 Ways to Help Stop Biden’s Vaccine Mandates

Not everyone has privileged access to the media

While Pfizer has seemingly curried favor — and positive coverage — via its extensive advertisement and sponsorship campaign, the same cannot be said about those who have tried to use advertising to raise awareness about vaccine injuries.

The case of 13-year-old Maddie de Garay is one example. Having experienced severe symptoms following the administration of the second dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine in January, as part of de Garay’s participation in a vaccine trial, a 30-second advertisement was prepared by the Vaccine Safety Research Association, which was intended to raise awareness of her injuries and to coincide with the Oct. 26 meeting of the FDA advisory committee meeting to review Pfizer data on its COVID vaccine for children 5-11.

The advertisement was originally accepted for broadcast by Comcast, but at the last minute, the company’s attorneys pulled the ad. It had been slated to air during broadcast sof “Saturday Night Live” and “Meet the Press.”

Comcast provided no explanation for why the ad was rejected at the last minute, or why the same standards have apparently not been applied to pharmaceutical advertisements and sponsorships.

Not only is Comcast a major cable television and telecommunications provider, but it is the parent company of NBCUniversal, which, in turn, is the parent company of NBC — and CNBC.

Siggy, you wouldn't believe the lumber we've been getting from an arborist..we've cut them to ten feet to fit the trailer, tomorrow we head back to the property to grab some more..it's pine and cedar.

We started building a contraption that will enable us to move the logs with ease and now awaiting delivery of a set of claws that grabs it, it's then lifted with pulleys. When completed I'll post a pic. Still having trouble locating the pic of the woodmill we built.

Ow Cain, you self. You picked the worse of the anti vaxxer nutcases to peddle some of his nonsense here.

Look how they describe this lunatic and his organization - The website Media Bias/Fact Check calls Kennedy’s corporation, Children’s Health Defense, “a strong conspiracy and quackery level advocacy group.”

  • Overall, we rate the Children’s Health Defense a strong conspiracy and quackery level advocacy group that frequently promotes unsupported claims. We also rate them low for factual reporting due to the promotion of propaganda as well as several failed fact checks.

The Anti-Vaccine Propaganda of Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.

Or how an environmental lawyer led a crusade against vaccines and spread lies to marginalized communities

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., does not want you to think of him as an anti-vaxxer. I have yet to meet an anti-vaxxer—someone who spreads misinformation about all vaccines being harmful—who is comfortable with the label. Kennedy is not just anti-vaccine; by many recent accounts, he is one of the princes of the anti-vaccination movement, if not its king. The website Media Bias/Fact Check calls Kennedy’s corporation, Children’s Health Defense, “a strong conspiracy and quackery level advocacy group.” An academic paper published in January 2020 reported that Children’s Health Defense was one of two buyers accounting for 54% of anti-vaccine advertising content on Facebook. Kennedy himself is part of the Disinformation Dozen, a gaggle of influencers generating two-thirds of anti-vaccination content on Facebook and Twitter, according to a recent assessment. Instagram banned him from their platform earlier this year, although his corporation’s account remains active.

As Kennedy releases a new “documentary” that uses medical failures toward Black people to sow distrust in the COVID-19 vaccines, I asked myself: how did one of John F. Kennedy’s nephews rise to infamy as one of the loudest voices of the modern anti-vaccination movement?

Like a mind virus

Robert F. Kennedy, Jr., grew up to be an environmental lawyer. The people frequently in his sights? Polluters.

When corporations and governments would skirt environmental laws, Kennedy would bring them to justice. Some of these cases involved contamination of waterways with mercury, a theme that would translate to his anti-vaccination crusade. But I think it is also important to highlight that the work we do helps shape our view of the world. My coverage of misinformation biases me to think it is more prevalent than it might be; likewise, it could be argued that a career spent exposing corporations that carelessly dump toxic chemicals into the world might bias you to imagine harmful plots wherever industry is involved.

While Kennedy was bringing corporate corruption to light, the anti-vaccination movement was re-energized thanks to Andrew Wakefield’s infamous Lancet paper, now retracted. Wakefield was interested in linking inflammatory bowel conditions to the clogging of blood vessels in the wall of the gut. In the early 1990s, after reading through an old virology textbook, he became obsessed with the idea that the measles virus was behind it all, for the simple reason that it had been shown to sometimes cause ulcers, which were seen in the stomach of some people with inflammatory bowel disease. Wakefield then turned his attention to the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine and tried to link it to a “leaky gut” hypothesis where molecules escaped digestion and impacted the brain. In 1998, he would publish his notorious paper and hold a press conference in London in which he claimed that the vaccine could very well be responsible for the rise in the rates of autism. It wasn’t, but Wakefield had developed an idée fixe—an obsession of the mind—and it would go on to infect Kennedy’s own thoughts a few years later.

In the summer of 2005, a psychologist from Minnesota by the name of Sarah Bridges went over to Kennedy’s house with a stack of papers. Her son had been diagnosed with autism and she blamed the mercury in the vaccines. Said mercury was part of a molecule called thimerosal, a preservative used since the 1940s in multi-dose vaccines to prevent bacterial growth. By Kennedy’s own account, Sarah Bridges would not leave Kennedy’s front porch until he had read these studies alleging a link between thimerosal and autism. Kennedy, who was already familiar with mercury’s effect on ecosystems, was alarmed and started calling regulators. He became convinced they either did not understand what vaccine science was allegedly saying or they were lying.

His public crusade began that very summer with the publication of a highly disingenuous article, prepared with the help of an anti-vaccination activist, in both the print version of Rolling Stone magazine and the website Salon.com. Its name was “Deadly Immunity” and it was riddled with mistakes, distorted quotes, and unsubstantiated fearmongering. Salon soon appended a number of corrections to it and, five and a half years later, finally retracted it.

As Dr. David Gorski pointed out at the time, Kennedy read a 260-page transcript from a vaccine safety meeting and quote-mined it to wring fear juice out of it. Whereby one vaccine advisor at the meeting had expressed warranted concerns that lawyers might use preliminary study results on vaccine safety for their own ends, Kennedy, himself a lawyer, trimmed the quote to make the advisor sound conspiratorial. Reading “Deadly Immunity,” you were led to believe that the doctors and scientists sitting on vaccine safety committees secretly argue that vaccines should not be tested for safety and that if studies are conducted, their results need to be “handled” to prevent the truth from leaking out to the public.

Over the years, Kennedy’s misguided idée fixe has snowballed and gained impressive momentum. He has propagated numerous falsehoods about the COVID-19 pandemic. He has been a mainstay at the AutismOne conference, which attracts fake experts convinced that vaccines cause autism. In his last appearance as keynote speaker, he incited attendees to evangelize for the anti-vaccination movement, concluding that he would see them “on the barricades.” Kennedy was asked to chair a “vaccine safety task force” for the Trump administration in 2017. (The task force would end up never materializing.) He also served as executive producer for the anti-vaccination “documentary” Vaxxed II: The People’s Truth. Now, his own corporation has released an anti-vaccine movie, one which is directed toward people of colour.

Weaponizing racism

The movie’s title is sensational click-bait. Medical Racism: The New Apartheid. It is a project of CHD Films, a division of Kennedy’s Children’s Health Defense (formerly known as the World Mercury Project). As NBC News reported when the movie was released a month ago, its producers include the founder of a private school that boasts of not enforcing vaccination mandates; a Nation of Islam minister who falsely claimed that childhood vaccines are genetically modified to harm children of colour; and a nonprofit CEO who promoted the misinformation campaign of America’s Frontline Doctors.

Kennedy himself bookends the narrative by asking the viewers to do their own research and come to their own conclusion, affording him plausible deniability. Black people are interviewed on the street and not one of them says they want the COVID-19 vaccine. They don’t believe in it, they don’t think it’s necessary, they don’t think it’s safe. One man tells the camera he has heard of Tuskegee. The government wants to study you, he says. “I’m not gonna be their guinea pig.”

These off-the-cuff remarks are bolstered by the usual sprinkling of family testimonials. The recipe is simple: a mother says her child was fine until they got the vaccine, and then “they shut down.” Photos of a smiling baby and a happy family are followed by B-roll of the child with autism and the mother fighting back tears. These emotional appeals were the meat of the anti-vaccine movie Vaxxed II: The People’s Truth and they return here with Black families.

To provide more legitimacy, Medical Racism turns to experts and pundits: medical doctors, historians, and professors, but also activists, integrative health practitioners and even a minister, to recount real violations committed against Black people, questionable allegations, and debunked falsehoods until the facts end up coating the lies with legitimacy.

One of the falsehoods is the CDC whistleblower story. In this 2021 movie, two talking heads repeat a story that was known to be false in 2014. The claim is that William Thompson of the Centers for Disease Control confessed that he and others had hidden data that the MMR vaccine put Black children at a much-increased risk to develop autism. This is not true. The full story (covered by Dr. Gorski and by Snopes). can be summarized thusly. It was a reanalysis of a 2004 study. The reanalysis was removed from the public domain because of a) undisclosed competing interests compromising its peer review and b) questionable statistical analyses. The original study can be tortured to yield a slight increase in autism rates among Black vaccinated boys, but it ignores a) the fact that the more categories of people you look at, the more likely you are to get a positive result by chance alone, b) the slight increase is probably tied to the immunization requirements for preschool special education for children with autism in the sample, and c) many more studies, some much larger, failed to find a link. Yet this story, with its conspiracy theme and its turncoat hero, is still flogged by anti-vaxxers because they need it to be true.

Not content with fearmongering about vaccines and medicine as a whole, Medical Racism also subtly implies that Black people simply do not need vaccines. We are told that Black people have a very powerful immune system and that vaccines overstimulate it. Besides, vitamin D, the movie claims, is a potent solution for COVID-19, one that is being suppressed. And the kicker is when an African gynecologist tells us that, with regards to viral infections, “Africa has been protected by our interactions with environment [sic]. And we are, actually, quite immune to some of these things, and I say this as a doctor! COVID does not belong to Africa.” The through line is clear: the coronavirus, the movie harmfully argues, is no threat to Black people. The real menace are the vaccines.

The website that hosts the movie offers viewers a collection of memes, shareable images with pithy statements from the film. Just like astroturf organizations can furnish protesters with professional placards, Children’s Health Defense has manufactured vivid memes for its followers to spread on social media. “Our bodies, our choice,” mentions one featuring a smiling group of Black people next to the movie’s logo and URL. “Find out how you can combat government coercion,” reads another one, “and medical abuse of people of color.” The website also offers text-based social media posts, pre-packaged, that anti-vaccine slacktivists can copy and paste onto Facebook.

It is clear to me, from watching Medical Racism and being familiar with Kennedy’s campaign against vaccines, that this is not about medical atrocities committed against Black people. This is propaganda. This is the stomach-churning exploitation of historical abuse and contemporary failings, peppered with falsehoods, to convince a marginalized audience already at increased risk for COVID-19 that safe and effective vaccines are poisonous. A real empathic appeal for dialogue on this issue would look like what Drs. Sandra Quinn and Michele Andrasik recently published in The New England Journal of Medicine. Kennedy’s Medical Racism by comparison is crass, manipulative miseducation.

As the end credits roll, we hear a song called “Save the Children” by Gil Scott-Heron. I couldn’t help but think of QAnon’s call-to-arms, which was trumpeted by wellness influencers on Instagram. Children were being sacrificed on the altar of Satanic Deep State pedophiles, they said. In Kennedy’s world, these same children need to be defended from the ritualistic abuses of pharmaceutical companies. “We’ve got to do something, yeah, to save the children,” the man sings over the scrolling text. But who will save the children’s parents from this harmful propaganda?

If I had to invest my hard earned cash, I'd bet on Pfizer before nutjobs like RFK jr. Life expectancy in the 1870's USA was below 40 years. It has almost doubled by 2020 because of vaccines and other advances in medicine. If we all were following quacks like RFK jr, we'd all be dead by now.

No doubt about the many crackpots out there with wild and whacky stories but there is some truth to some of what they are fighting for and we should know what to sift out, just as everything we see or hear around us daily.

Yes, medicine came a long way and we are all better off for it but it sure as hell isn't the only reason. We also learned of ways to be healthy, learned what to eat and what to not. We learned to not toss the posey contents out the window but use a facility for such purposes.

Unfortunately Big Pharma doesn't just produce medicine ( with the use of our taxes) with only the health and welfare in mind, its now about the almighty $.

Let's face it,  Natural immunity is not profitable so it's thrown out the window, instead we are being told...oops...forced to take something that is only now being tested.

Talking about crackpots, imagine not that long ago blame was put on those against this vaccine for its inability to work, even giving them stupid labels such as Antivaxxers even though these people have taken vaccines throughout their life as I have. Now just imagine Ford cars having a recall due to brake failures and the blame was placed on those who purchased Toyotas. Yep, there are lots of nutjobs out there.

Just as you think that there are profits to be made by Big Pharma, there is a ton of money to be made by the anti vaxxer crackpots and that's why they carry on with spreading disinformation when they know it's a farce. All these books, podcasts, conferences and "documentaries" bring in huge profits for people who are selling snake oil. Dude, you repeat all this nonsense that you read about in anti vaxxer land without thinking for yourself. The vaccine is working for the purpose that it was designed. It is saving lives. It's no coincidence that upwards of 95% of people dying are those who are unvaccinated. Natural immunity is quack science in the fight against COVID and that's why it is thrown out the window. It has nothing to do with profits. Do you know how many millions of people would have to die first before we reach to natural immunity level? We don't enough have enough hospitals and funeral homes to cater for unvaccinated people who make up about 38% of the US population. Too many people out sick causing a shortage of healthy workers. Shutting down schools. Can you imagine what would happen if the entire population were unvaccinated and we try to reach natural immunity.

Maybe you don't see the healthy individuals vaxxed to the max die. I do. I will not bring it up here because I know others will worry themselves to death and I don't plan on adding more stress to those already stressed out.

Two of our customers, both fairly young and healthy died in the last few weeks..both of the same thing..heart attack. I can't say whether from one thing or another but when healthy people drop I am concerned. Three cousins (vaccinated) are now complaning of headaches..one recently hospitalised. There is more but I stand quiet for now.

Something to ponder. With all ads on pharmaceuticals we see it comes with warnings..they can bring on a range of side effects...even death. This vaccine somehow magically show nothing.

You have the right to believe what you will, so do I.

All across America, they are reporting 97%, 98%, 99% of COVID deaths among unvaccinated people. Hospitalizations and serious illness, same thing, almost all unvaccinated. Vaccine deaths and side effects are miniscule. Common sense tells me what I need to do to stay healthy.

Commonsense tells me they should grow a pair and show the harm the vaccine has also done but that will never happen, their huge revenues from pharma advertising will diminish.

Why don't the anti vaxxer community show us the harm since it's in their best interest? They can't because there is none and just resort to spreading unfounded lies.

Why are their sites taken down?

I saw one where a mom spoke on behalf of her daughter who is now in a wheelchair with a feeding hose attached...this came right after being vaxxed. She mentioned being given the opportunity to go on a show to explain her situation. Before they were given the chance to do so they were told the interview was cancelled.

I have to go back and check on something to do with an ex VP of Phizer speaking out against forcing the vax. But again you would probably say he joined JFK jr.

U.S. reports nearly 1 million COVID-19 cases in a day, setting global record

The United States set a global record of almost 1 million new coronavirus infections reported on Monday, according to a Reuters tally, nearly double the country's peak hit just a week ago as the highly contagious Omicron variant shows no sign of slowing.

The number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients has risen nearly 50 per cent in the last week and now exceeds 100,000, a Reuters analysis showed, the first time that threshold has been reached since the winter surge a year ago.

Overall, the United States has seen a daily average of 486,000 cases over the last week, a rate that has doubled in seven days and far outstrips that of any other country. The 978,856 new infections on Monday includes some cases from Saturday and Sunday, when many states do not report.

The average number of U.S. COVID-19 deaths per day has remained fairly steady throughout December and into early January at about 1,300, according to a Reuters tally, though deaths typically lag behind cases and hospitalizations.

Omicron appears to be far more easily transmitted than previous iterations of the virus. The variant was estimated to account for 95.4% of the coronavirus cases identified in the United States as of Jan. 1, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said on Tuesday.

The World Health Organization said on Tuesday that evidence thus far suggests Omicron is causing less severe illness. Nevertheless, public health officials have warned that the sheer volume of Omicron cases threatens to overwhelm hospitals, some of which are already struggling to handle a wave of COVID-19 patients, primarily among the unvaccinated.

Maryland Governor Larry Hogan declared a 30-day state of emergency on Tuesday and mobilized 1,000 National Guard members to pandemic response operations as COVID-19 hospitalizations in the state hit a record high of more than 3,000. That is an increase of more than 500% in the last seven weeks, Hogan said.

"The truth is that the next four to six weeks will be the most challenging time of the entire pandemic," Hogan told reporters. "Our newest projections as of today show that COVID hospitalizations could reach more than 5,000, which would be more than 250% higher than our previous peak of 1,952 last year."

Delaware, Illinois, Ohio and Washington, D.C., also have reported record numbers of hospitalized COVID patients in recent days.

'UNLIKE ANYTHING WE'VE SEEN'

In Kentucky, where Tuesday's total of 6,915 new cases is the highest daily figure since the start of the pandemic, Governor Andy Beshear urged residents to get vaccinated and wear masks.

"Omicron is causing a surge unlike anything we’ve seen and at this rate our hospitals will fill up," he wrote on Twitter.

The unrelenting surge has prompted more than 3,200 schools to close their buildings this week, according to Burbio, a site that tracks school disruptions. Schools that have remained open are facing staff shortages and renewed concerns about virus spread.

In Boston, where more than 54,000 students returned to class on Tuesday following the holiday break, Superintendent of Schools Brenda Cassellius told reporters there were 1,000 staff members out, including 461 teachers and 52 bus drivers.

"It does make for a difficult start to the day," she said.

In Chicago, the teachers union objected to Monday's return to schools, saying the district needs stricter protocols such as required testing. Teachers were expected to vote on Tuesday on whether they support working remotely starting on Wednesday.

More than 325,000 COVID-19 cases among children were reported in the United States for the week ending Dec. 30, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Children's Hospital Association, a new high and almost double the count from the previous two weeks.

The Biden administration is finalizing contracts for 500 million rapid coronavirus tests it plans to distribute for free to Americans, the White House said on Tuesday. The initiative is intended to help alleviate a testing crunch that has led to inadequate supplies and long lines in many places.

In addition, the administration doubled its order of Pfizer Inc's COVID-19 antiviral pills to a total of 20 million treatment courses.

Government health officials have emphasized that vaccines and boosters remain the best way to avoid serious illness.

The CDC on Tuesday recommended shortening the interval between Pfizer-BioNTech's second COVID-19 vaccine dose and the booster shot to five months from six, a day after the Food and Drug Administration made a similar move.

RE: Govt and health officials say take the vaccine and get boosters is the best way to avoid illness and the sheeple are okay believing that.

See now that's the frigging bullshit they're still pushing on people after saying the vaccine ain't working hence numerous boosters plus the fact the "newer" virus doesn't care about the vaccine. Why don't they pound it into people when they are sick stay da fk home and stop spreading the flu?  A barcode on a so called health passport does not stop a flu just..stay da fk home.

Read again. You are misquoting what the Government health officials are saying.

"Government health officials have emphasized that vaccines and boosters remain the best way to avoid serious illness."

There is a chance that you can contract the virus even if you're vaccinated though the odds are less than for an unvaccinated person. What the health officials are telling you is that you are much less likely to get SERIOUSLY ill or DIE if you are vaccinated. This is borne out by the statistics which tell us that upwards of 95% of those dying and getting seriously ill are unvaccinated people. The health officials are not telling us that you can't get the virus if you're vaccinated. That is a misconception being peddled by the anti vaxxer community.

You have to show proof of your vaccination before you can enter the sports meet.

Mars gonna say like Nicki, I mek dis one up too.

Earlier today, a niece of one of our customers who died last year stopped in to collect some items we had repaired for him. She told us a heart attack was the cause and when asked to have an autopsy she was told " there is no need, he is in his early eighties." His dad passed away at 104 and they always joked about him doing the same so maybe he should hook up with an ole lady.

Her reason for the request was because he had received his booster prior. Now you would think in these times this should be approved just to be certain of the reason.

These are the things that makes one (especially if a conspiracy nut) go, hmmm.

Cain did you hear that twenty something people died after snow trapped them in the mountains in Pakistan. They all received the COVID vaccine so the vaccine is the cause of death.

I also hear over 50 people in Europe had French fries after they took the jab died, so fries after Covid vaccine is very dangerous and should be avoided at all costs…..hahahahaha [maniacal laughter]
