Dia Mirza was Miss Asia Pacific for the year 2000 and was also second runner up in the Femina Miss India 2000 beauty pageant.

Dia Mirza was born in Hyderabad, India. Her father, Frank Handrich, was a German interior designer from Munich and her mother is Deepa, a Bengali Indian.

Frank and Deepa separated when Dia was six years old. Subsequently Frank died when she was nine and her mother remarried Ahmed Mirza who died in 2004

Besides acting in films, Dia Mirza has a talent for painting too.

Dia was introduced to painting in her early childhood by her late father Frank Handrich, who was a German painter. Although her father passed away when she was very young, Dia never gave up trying to sketch or paint.


Today, when she has made her own little place in Bollywood, Dia continues to paint in her free time. Painting paraphernalia like easel, palette, brushes and paints can be seen in her bedroom, which also serves as a workshop for Dia.

However, Dia doesn’t keep any of her works. She keeps gifting her canvas creations to friends and relatives.

According to a report, Dia’s latest creation is a painting depicting moonlight reflected in the sea. Dia has also tried her hand at some portraits and abstract paintings. But she is humble enough to admit that she is still in learning stages.

Apart from Dia, Bollywood actors Sushmita Sen and Salman Khan also paint in their free time.

In her film 'Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd.', she plays the role of a Gujarati girl named Shilpa who has just got married to Ranvir Shorey. Unhappy with her marriage and now on a package honeymoon trip with 5 other couples, she continues to be sad about the state of affairs and is found weeping for most part of her journey.

Grapevine indicates that her character in the film is shown to be in love with another man. Will she find him at the end of her tour and wipe off her tears? Also would Ranvir allow her to embrace him a la 'Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam'?

Bollywood’s baby doll, Diya Mirza is playing judge in Disney’s Little Princess Hunt. Diya says, “I have always had an attachment with children. My shooting schedule is not so hectic at present, so I thought I could well do this.”


2006 has not been a very good year for Diya. Her movies, ‘Parineeta’ and ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’ tasted success, but Dia hardly got recognition from them. But Diya holds a positive attitude. She says, “I feel every passing year is a setting stone for the next year. Whatever I did in 2006 adds value to 2007 and the year after”.

...a soft-porn. She goes on to say that there is not even a single stripping scene in the film. The only bold scene in the film shows her kissing her co-star Emraan Hashmi .

Diya says even this kiss is not titillating. She shared her thoughts on the much talked-about kiss in an interview.

“The kiss in the movie is an integral part of the story. It shows the first encounter between Emraan and me and if you see the promos carefully you will see disgust and humiliation on my face. It is because my character is kissed by a stranger,” says Diya.

But how would she react if some stranger were to kiss her in real life.

“I will simply beat him black and blue,” she replies.

Well, she doesn’t know that there are many guys who would deem a hot kiss as a reasonable bargain for a black eye."
