Bollywood Half-Yearly Report: The Worst Films of the Year So Far

Martini Shots, Bollywood, Fri Jul 08 2016, Authors: Manik Saggar (Editorial Team), http://www.desimartini.com/new...far/article34640.htm

In Desimartini's ongoing series Bollywood Half-Yearly Report, we now recognise the worst the Hindi film industry has produced this year.

Yes, the quality of Bollywood steadily has been on the rise but that doesn't mean we weren't shocked by how bad some of the films were.

Here's the list of worst of the worst:

Fitoor

Bollywood Half-Yearly Report: The Worst Films of the Year So Far

Adaptation of the classic novel Great Expectations, the film failed to capture anything meaningful. Yes, the film was beautifully shot but it barely went beyond that. To make things worse, it is one of the biggest commercial failures of the year.

According to critic Sweta Kaushal, Fitoor falls short of fulfilling any other great expectations we had beyond showcasing the wonderful beauty of the Valley.

Veerappan

Bollywood Half-Yearly Report: The Worst Films of the Year So Far

The fact that the Kannada version of the film is so highly rated, made this Ram Gopal Varma film an even bigger disappointment. While the Kannada version sophisticated plot and great performances, the film lacked on both fronts.

According to critic Rohit Vats, "The attempt to produce a taut thriller is hampered by the fact Veerappan states the obvious. Rather than how and why of the dreaded smuggler’s rise in the border areas of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, it seeks refuge in dishing out the details of Operation Cocoon."

Junooniyat

Bollywood Half-Yearly Report: The Worst Films of the Year So Far

This highly melodramatic film has all the elements of a typical romantic film. But the problem is that it doesn't go beyond that. The result is an overly sweet film that is hard to digest.

According to critic Rohit Vats, "this sappy, clichÃĐd love story of an army officer who believes he’s made a choice, falls in love but appears buffeted by destiny’s changing winds."

Love Games

This provocative film had good ideas but director Vikram Bhatt couldn't execute most of them. The result was a shiny surface of a film that lacked any real depth.

According to critic Anupama Chopra, "...this script is so purposefully inane that it’s impossible for anyone to retain their dignity."

One Night Stand

Bollywood Half-Yearly Report: The Worst Films of the Year So Far

Based on an overly-used concept of casual relationships, this Sunny Leone -- though better than Mastizaade -- was still pretty bad.

According to critic Anupama Chopra, "the bad news is that the talent both in front of the camera and behind it simply isn’t mature enough to handle these complex ideas."

Kya Kool Hai Hum 3

Bollywood Half-Yearly Report: The Worst Films of the Year So Far

Filled with crass jokes and below-the-belt humour at its worst, this film was too juvenile to be considered an adult comedy,

According to critic Rajeev Masand, for a film that boldly advertises itself as a 'porn-com', Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3 is surprisingly limp. It's underwhelming both in its raunchiness and its level of humor – frankly, I've read jokes forwarded on Whatsapp that are more naughty than anything in this film.
