In 1966 a friend of mine went to England and lived there for 8 years,
then migrated to Canada as a permanent Resident in 1974.
It beyond me why this Friend of mine never applied for Canadian
citizenship.
I invited this person to visit New York for a special Occasion (I WILL SHARE THE OCCASION WITH MY GNI FRIENDS AT A LATER TIME ..PROMISE )
At the airport in Toronto he was told that he require a visa to travel to the USA.
Canadian or English citizen no not require a visa to come to the USA,
so I'm thinking this person must love his Guyana citizenship, and this is very admirable,or on the other hand he just a lazy dumb ass.(still my Friend)
My Dear Canadian GNI friends I ask you, What are the pros and cons, between being a citizen and permanent resident in you Lovely Country?
In the USA the advantage of being a citizen far out weight that of a
permanent Resident.
Your answer will help educate me and my Friend, and maybe some one else who is procrastinating .

Residents of Canada who are landed immigrants generally need a passport and visa to enter the United States, unless they are a citizen of a country eligible for the Visa Waiver Program (VWP). If they are a citizen of a country eligible for the VWP, they are only required to have their valid passport - coming by land or sea. If coming by air, they will need to have advance approval to travel through the Electronic System for Travel Authorization

He was just lazy and probably a procrastinator.

I know of someone living in gy who is a landed immigrant in Canada for over 15 years but who never lived in Canada but goes there every year. He told me that the authorities pulled him over in 08 and questioned him. His argument was that he doesn't cost the Canadian gov anything he doesn't take anything from them.
I told him that his status meant that he should have been paying taxes to the Canadian gov and that he didn't need a landed immigrant visa if he had no intention of living there.

I'm sure when he gets older he will want free medical treatment in Canada, then when they deny him he will create a stink.
