Catherine Zeta-Jones at cancer risk?
London, Sept 12 : Hollywood beauty Catherine Zeta-Jones, who is taking care of her cancer-stricken husband Michael Douglas, has been warned she too is at risk of contracting the disease.
Douglas, who is battling advanced throat cancer, has tested positive for the human papilloma virus (HPV), which is transmitted sexually and can lead to cervical cancer in women.
"She is aware she too is at risk and has been tested," the Daily Express quoted a close friend of the actress as saying.
"But all her energy right now is being devoted to Michael and the kids. She is already sick with worry over him.
"The thought that she too could develop cancer as a result of HPV is an absolute nightmare for her.
"I know she hasn't been Βsleeping well but she is eating and knows she has to keep strong and her resistance high not only for his sake but also, now, her own," the source added.
Leading specialist Dr Randal Weber, an expert on cancers of the head and neck at Houston's M D ΒAnderson Cancer Center in Texas, urged the 40-year-old actress to be tested on a regular basis.
"She could contract several forms of cancer, including cervical, if she contracts HPV," he said.
"People who test positive for this must remain vigilant," he added.
