Better you run into a pedestrian than you run into a car.

Sunil Bloomberg is turning Manhattan into England and Europe with all the plazas and bike lanes.

 

Marcy I prefer to drive the "birds".

 

DU the tie and suit thing on a bike has been around a long time it's just that you are not payiung attention. With the advent of the Citi Bike you will see more of that. This morning when I got off the LIRR i TOOK A BIKE AND RODE TO THE OFFICE AND GUESS HWAT THERE WERE ONLY TWO BIKES BY pENN sTATION, SO IT'S CATCHING ON.

Your advise is very useful.

Riding  the city streets is not the same as the suburbs and I am comming to realize that. As per your advise I am taking up the lane as much as possible.

Good advice there.

 

The following is one I use constantly. Because of the sewer grilles on our streets, the wheels, especially the slim ones as I use can get caught up in them which could be quite dangerous.

I also see riders swerving from them which is also dangerous. They should place themselves at a safe distance where they miss the grille ( approx two feet from the curb)

 

 

 

"It's often safer to take the whole lane, or at least ride a little bit to the left, rather than hug the right curb. Here's why:

  • Cars at intersections ahead of you can see you better if you're squarely in the road rather than on the extreme edge where you're easily overlooked.
  • Taking the lane prevents cars from passing you too closely on narrow roadways.
  • Riding a bit to the left prevents you from being a victim of the door prize."
