THOUSANDS of children from all over the country gathered at the National Cultural Centre in Georgetown yesterday to see who will be the winner representing Guyana at the Regional Spelling Bee Competition in St.Kitts and Nevis. Mastering both segments of the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph (GT&T) sponsored contest and coming from Berbice was Renae Bisnauth of Cropper Primary School in District Six.
She claimed the winning position in the first ever National Spelling Bee Championship in Guyana, by correctly spelling the word β€˜Imperative’.
She held the attention of the crowd with her confidence and bold characteristics throughout the entire spelling process and gave the Guyanese public and her sponsors the assurance that she has the ability to cope with the challenge of representing this country abroad at the regional battle.

Cropper student in Regional Spelling Bee competition.

Nine-year-old Renee Bisnauth of Albion, Berbice, is in St. Kitts/Nevis this weekend where she is representing Guyana at the fifth Annual Regional Spelling Bee competition. Renee, a Grade 5 Cropper Primary School student, won the GT&T National Spelling Bee competition which took place at the National Cultural Centre in September. She is accompanied by her mother Donna Bisnauth and the head teacher of Cropper Primary School, Leroy King, who will serve as her coach.

The Spelling Bee competition will attract participants between 9 and 10 years of age from Antigua/Barbuda, Dominica, Grenada, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, St. Maarten and host St. Kitts/Nevis.

Guyanese, Renee Bisnauth placed fourth at the Caribbean Spelling Bee competition that was held on Saturday last in St Kitts and her major sponsor– Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T) is β€œvery, very happy” with her performance.

β€œI think she did Guyana proud even though she wasn’t in the top three,” said GT&T’s Allison Parker.
