Court orders brawling student to clean school for 10 days

DAMMAM — A 17-year-old high school student was ordered by Al-Qatif District Court to clean his school yard for 10 days during the school recess after he got into a fight with another student in front of the school at the end of the last academic year, Al-Yaum newspaper reported.

A court source said a teacher saw the boy attack his victim and reported him to the police.

The student was detained at a correctional facility for three days and released when the victim forgave him, the source added.

The goal of alternative sentences is to replace custodial sentences, said the source.

The source added the alternative sentences apply to people who do not have criminal records. — SG
