Father remanded on incest charge
A 38-year-old father who is accused of having sex with both of his daughters, aged 10 and 11, between July 2011 and February 2012, was yesterday charged with Carnal Knowledge of both children.
The man appeared at the Charity Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Leron Daly.
The Wakenaam resident was told of the charge and was cautioned by Magistrate Daly to not enter a plea to the indictable offence.
According to a police report, the man allegedly engaged in sexual penetration of his two daughters. Magistrate Daly refused bail and scheduled his next court appearance for March 28.
Meanwhile, 20-year-old Zaheer Mohamed, of Pomona, also appeared at the Charity Magistrate’s Court, charged with Carnal Knowledge of a girl under 15.
He too was refused bail by Magistrate Daly, although his lawyer argued that Mohamed is currently before the court to answer the offence of use of threatening language.
Counsel Hemraj Rajkumar argued that Mohamed was not a flight risk. He will appear at the Suddie Magistrate’s Court on March 28.
Over the past three months, there has been an upsurge in sexual offences perpetrated against teenagers on the Essequibo Coast.
