'Gates of the Lord: The Tradition of Krishna Paintings'
Selected paintings from the Art Institute of Chicago's "Gates of the Lord: The Tradition of Krishna Paintings" exhibit, on display from Sept. 13 to Jan. 3, 2016.
The exhibit brings together 100 pieces of artwork from private and public collections in India and the United States for the first major U.S. exhibition of the art of the Pushtimarg, a Hindu denomination from Western India.
The pichvai - or colorful, painted wall hangings - featured in the exhibit are meant to hang behind svarups (sacred images) of Shrinathji, a form of Krishna.
