Last year this singing duo screwed me and my family when Udit couldn't get a US visa to perform in Boston elsewhere on the East Coast. We got refunds. Well, he got his visas and he will perform tonight at the Ritz Theater in Elisabeth, New Jersey. I made sure of this before purchasing tickets.

I'm heading over there tonight. Should be a great concert. If anyone knows of some snafu post here.

You're in for a treat. Saw them perform in Guyana last May. This May I will go see the wonderful, the amazing master Sonu Nigam perform in Guyana.

The show opened wit ha suroprising Mrs. Narayan singing Lag Jaa Gale from Woh Kaun Thi (a favorite of mine from my teen years).

Alka opened with Kutch Kutch hota hai. She's kept herself well and the girl has been the true inheritor of the Lata nightingale. (Shrerya sings with passion and Sunidi has some pop), but Alka has distinguished herself well. Tonight she had a controlled energy, but rendered her favorites well.

Udit is something else. I got a double billing of him as a terrific singer and a comedian. He's a showman, but not in a practiced sense. He aims to please and has a natural joy to his performances. And the dude can sing. He acted some of his songs he played back for starts better than the stars themselves. Amitabh would have been proud of how Udit performed on stage Khaike Pan Banaraswala from Don. Udit actually kissed a woman in the audience full-mouth in the usual performer shaking hands at the end of the stage (maybe he wasn't expecting it).

He flirted with Alka too - though in an innocent way. Mind you Mrs. Narayan was there. They obviously have chemistry when they performed together on stage, but towards the end Ii thought their energy waned. It was a packed house at the Ritz theater in New Jersey, but everyone was entertained. Udit and Alka have been bringing joy to Indians all over for 3 decades now, and they are masters of it.

I like Sonu and he's the best since Rafi. Saw him at the Nassau Coliseum a few years ago. I'll tell you who impressed me most though from a performance standpoint - Atif Aslam. That  boy had come on stage like he just got up and started rocking. Kajol you would enjoy Sonu - a thorough professional.

Udit tried to be Charlie Chaplin-esque - you know bumbling in a funny way, and use of histrionics when singing. He is genuinely a bundle of joy and makes you laff in like a good-uncle way. He came out at first with a polka dot butter/navy blazer - so funny. But his singing was as we expected - great.

There were a few Guyanese that I met there. It was a packed Theater.
