Explaining the increase yesterday, Government spokesman, Dr. Roger Luncheon, said that this year, the $3B subsidy for Linden was slashed by $1B which meant that tariffs would have to be increased, though still way below the level of the rest of the country.
The announcement of the hike and slashing of the subsidy has been met with protests by especially Lindeners. The hike was recently passed in Parliament during the 2012 National Budget deliberations.
According to Dr. Luncheon yesterday, the tariffs will go up but not close to what “others” are paying.

OK so why not have Guysuco workers refund the taxpayers for the BILLIONS of dollars that they have received in wages?

But for this bailout the sugar workers would be UNEMPLOYED, much as many in Linden are thanks to the PPP.

Jagdeo screams that Guysuco shouldn't be privatized.  So why did Guymine have to be privatized, with the resulting massive job losses.

Foot what bill? Linden has been the 2nd largest contributor to the Guyanese economy after Georgetown. The Linden electricity supply grid is also not connected to the grid that GPL operates.

If I am reading this post correctly, and chronologically, the discussion took a turn for the worst with this statement by T. I have quite a bit of impact on GNI.  GNI is read by quite a few people, in fact way more than many here realize. Try googling anything political on Guyana, especially race, and see how often it comes up.  Why do you think that Jagdeo used to pay PPP stooges to infest this site?

So clearly GNI also impacts the information which non Guyanese get about Guyana.

The fact that I respond to the Indo KKK, and expose people like you who REFUSE to deal with race, except when you attempt to attack me because I pose the issue of Indo racism, exposes those who read GNI that there is a narrative beyond that peddled by the Indo KKK.
