Govt. to release 2012 population census on Monday
Government is set to release the findings of a population head count on Monday at the Guyana International Convention Centre,
the Bureau of Statistics announced yesterday. The preliminary report of the 2012 census will reflect the situation as at December 2012. The report is expected to include a preliminary population count; the number of households and the average household size by Region; the regional population growth; regional population density; gender distribution and the population distribution by coastland and hinterland regions amongst others. Chief Statistician, Lennox Benjamin, said that the Preliminary Census Report is in keeping with a previously outlined timeframe. βThe field exercises were completed in December 2012 while the final verification and editing finished in June 2013. Therefore, the preliminary report is being released one year after the final verification process.β Guyanaβs last census was conducted in 2002 when a population of 751,023 was recorded. Census 2012 was part of the United Nationsβ 2010 round of global population and housing censuses.
