Grace Aneiza Ali

Grace Ali. Headshot. 2014Grace Aneiza Ali is the founder and editorial director of OF NOTE, one of the first online magazines focused on global artists using the arts as catalysts for activism and social change.

In 2014, she received the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts Curatorial Fellowship in partnership with Aljira, A Center for Contemporary Art for the 2015 exhibition, “Guyana Modern,” which will feature a new generation of photographers from Guyana and its major diasporic communities in New York, London and Toronto.

She’s an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences at The City College of New York (CUNY), a World Economic Forum Global Shaper and a Fulbright Scholar.

In addition to her critical commentary on contemporary photography, Grace currently hosts the “Visually Speaking” series (curated by Terrence Jennings) at the New York Public Library’s Schomburg Center, which examines the state of photojournalism through the lens of photographers and image-makers.

Grace was born in Guyana, South America and immigrated to the United States when she was fourteen years old. Guyana continues to inform her worldview. Her portfolio includes several multi-media projects aimed at contributing to the artistic and cultural production of Guyana and its diaspora.

Having grown up surrounded by a culture of illiteracy among women and girls, Grace is also committed to Girls’ Education in developing nations, with much of her advocacy work rooted in Guyana, India, and Ethiopia.

She holds an M.A. in Africana Studies from New York University, where she was the recipient of the Henry MacCracken Fellowship, and a B.A. in English Literature from the University of Maryland, College Park, where she graduated magna cum laude. Grace attended Queen’s College while in Guyana.

What can this girl do that so turn you to stone? I do not know her but from her bio I have a connection to a couple of people who would know her. I happen to like her work.

It is clear that she would not be seen in the Indian community as having a "worthy" specialty, African studies! I know for sure she would be alienated from most Indian men especially who would see her as defecting. I think it is people like here that we need more of to illustrate how our world is one and the dimensions of our deprivations are the same. She has made of her self a bridge to our communities and is showing us, whether we care or not, how and where we must walk. I like that her collection is not prescriptive just illustrative.

Nothing to do with that Stingaaagh.....nothing of a substantive nature.....just standards of behavior. Her gig is not my daughter's line of business. She graduated with a Bachelors degree in film. She was just helping her out in social media.

My statements are all from what I know of the indian community. I live in it, i am of it.You can lie if you want. I tell it straight up.

Indians have women as the borders of their culture and invest in them the burden of being the guardians of the culture. Is that not why women are often disowned by family member for cross cultural marriages?

I do not care if you take me seriously. You do not count in my world.
