I spoke to my sister and a few cousins this morning and they say it's not as bad as was expected. LI / Lower Manhattan seems to have the brunt of it.

We are doing fine in the big apple and thanks for asking. I was sleeping like a baby last night with the heavy rain fall.

Not too much problems getting around Brooklyn. I was outside around 9:30 for my morning walk. I saw a few large branches on the ground but no trees blocking the roads.
No widespread flooding, just lots of debis from trees lining the roadway.
The streets were quiet, a few homeless persons walking around. No trains or buses were running.
Kings Highway was empty, you could have crossed it without looking for traffic.
A few grocery stores were open, but hardly anyone on the road. It reminded me of Christmas morning.

I'm happy to know that Irene did not land.
Went for a walk a little while ago, everything looks ok-ish, minus the buses and trains.
These babies weathered the storm.
