Jon Voight / Angelina Jolie: The Oscar-winning actor leapt to stardom in "Midnight Cowboy" and has worked steadily and affectingly for decades. Daughter Angelina Jolie (who's estranged from her dad and has dropped his last name) had a similar leap at a young age, in "Gia" and then in her Oscar-winning performance in "Girl, Interrupted." The superstar and global goodwill ambassador has used her family connections as the perfect jumping-off point.

Ravi Shankar / Norah Jones: The pre-eminent sitarist was a superstar in India and Asia for years before George Harrison brought him to the world stage. Shankar's daughter Anoushka is a rising sitar star herself and often plays concerts with her father. But Shankar's other daughter is an American jazz treasure: Norah Jones (daughter of Sue Jones, a former nurse), who collects Grammys like they were refrigerator magnets. Thanks to dad, the music world "feels like home."

Big success in the making? Get a clue!

Tom Hanks / Colin Hanks: OK, it's a tough act to follow, the Tom Hanks career and stature thing, but young Colin is giving it a great shot. He started in TV roles, just like pop, and has slowly ventured onto the big screen ("King Kong"). He started in a teeny role in dad's directorial debut, "That Thing You Do!," and will be seen soon starring with Tom in "The Great Buck Howard" as -- wait for it -- Tom Hanks' son. Think he can pull it off?

John Lennon / Julian and Sean Lennon: One of pop's masters, John Lennon, had talent to spare and infused both his sons with broad musical abilities. Julian (son of John's first wife, Cynthia) had enormous success in the '80s with his debut album, "Valotte," and has since toured with Sean. Sean, son of Yoko Ono, has dabbled in music, especially with Japanese and Brazilian sounds, and continues to build his musical reputation; he's scheduled to be part of Lollapalooza 2007.

Bob Dylan / Jakob Dylan: Bob Dylan's pop/folk career needs no introduction and neither did his talented son Jakob (son with ex-wife Sara), who splashed onto the pop scene in the mid-'90s with the Wallflowers and several megahits including "One Headlight." Since then there have been more Wallflowers albums, but Jakob seems to be taking his career in a more solo direction. That sound you hear? The chimes of freedom flashing.

Bruce Lee / Brandon Lee: Bruce Lee, the father of the modern martial-arts era, held an influence over film that lasted long after his premature death at age 32. His only son, Brandon, would become a handsome film actor too, yet tragedy befell him on the set of what would become a huge cult hit, "The Crow" (he was fatally injured by a faulty prop gun). Brandon died at age 28, and his body is now buried next to that of his father in Seattle.

John Huston / Anjelica and Danny Huston: John Huston was a dynamo actor ("Chinatown") and director ("The Maltese Falcon," "The African Queen"), and the son himself of a first-rate actor, Walter Huston, whom John directed in "The Treasure of the Sierra Madre." No wonder that John's talented offspring, Anjelica and Danny, would follow in his footsteps. Angelica has earned accolades for her acting ("Prizzi's Honor," directed by John; "Crimes and Misdemeanors") and directing ("Bastard Out of Carolina"), as has Danny (acting in "21 Grams," directing "The Maddening"). Pop -- and grandpop -- would be proud.

Sidney Poitier / Sydney Poitier: The Oscar-winning actor forged new ground in the civil-rights era and with fierce performances in films such as "Lilies of the Field," "To Sir, With Love" and "In the Heat of the Night," with some notable side ventures into directing ("Stir Crazy"), and, having just turned 80, has continued to work. Meanwhile, his lovely daughter and namesake, Sydney, began a strong TV acting career, notably as a recurring character on "Veronica Mars." She recently splashed onto the big screen in Quentin Tarantino's "Grindhouse" and more will surely follow.

In Daddy's Footsteps
Kirk Douglas / Michael Douglas: Kirk Douglas has had an acting career that spans film noir ("Out of the Past"), big-screen epics ("Spartacus") and even voice-over appearances ("The Simpsons"). Handsome son Michael took the family mantle and ran with it, first on TV in "The Streets of San Francisco," and then in films such as "The China Syndrome," "Wall Street" and "Fatal Attraction." The next generation is already rising, in the form of Michael's son Cameron, who was lucky enough to star with both dad and granddad in "It Runs in the Family."

John Ritter / Jason Ritter: John Ritter was a beloved comic actor from his TV work in "Three's Company" all the way up to his final sitcom, "8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter," and showed extraordinary range in dramatic film roles such as "Sling Blade." John was the son of famed Western swing balladeer Tex Ritter and thus was born into the showbiz arena. John's son Jason has carried the torch since John's tragic death in 2003. Jason has made a mark like his dad, on TV, notably in "Joan of Arcadia" and "The Class," but watch for him to grow a film career as well. It's in his blood.

Quincy Jones / Rashida Jones: Legendary music producer Quincy Jones also has had a long, fruitful career in film and television production. No surprise, then, that his beautiful daughter Rashida (with ex-wife Peggy Lipton) would be so comfortable in the Hollywood limelight. She made her first big splash in "Boston Public" and now uses her deadpan comic skills to perfection in "The Office." Oh, yes, and she sings too.

Lou Adler / Cisco Adler: Thank Lou Adler for a whole big chunk of the music of the 1960s -- the famed producer helped forge the careers of the Mamas & the Papas, Sam Cooke and Carole King. He also produced films such as "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" and Cheech & Chong's "Up in Smoke" and owns the Roxy Theatre in Los Angeles. So son Cisco had a nice leg up when he decided to venture into showbiz and has had some success as a composer and actor in indie films -- though the shaggy haired musician has largely been famous for being linked to other hot young Hollywood types, such as Mischa Barton and Kimberly Stewart.

Ivan Reitman / Jason Reitman: Ivan Reitman has been a force in American comedy for years, directing hits such as "Ghostbusters," "Kindergarten Cop" and "Stripes." Son Jason hit the ground running, acting in some of dad's films ("Dave") before forging his own directing career, hitting a high note with the blistering "Thank You for Smoking," which is also an apt description of his career.

In Daddy's Footsteps
Lawrence Kasdan / Jon and Jake Kasdan: Lawrence Kasdan is the directorial force behind hits such as "Body Heat," "The Big Chill" and "Grand Canyon." Meanwhile, his sons have been busy, too: Jon Kasdan acted in several of dad's films and made his feature directorial debut in 2007 with "In the Land of Women"; Jake has focused more on TV, directing episodes of "Freaks & Geeks" and "Grosse Pointe."

Freddie Prinze / Freddie Prinze Jr.: Freddie Prinze was poised to be a TV superstar with his winning persona on the hit "Chico and the Man." Sadly, he committed suicide in 1977, less than a year after the birth of his namesake son. Freddie Jr. has quietly forged a steady career of his own, including roles in films such as "Scooby Doo" and a variety of TV shows. Freddie Jr. is happily married to fellow actor Sarah Michelle Gellar.
