Instead of Ubuntu, can I install windows 8.1 on my dad's windows 7 machine? How do I get the download and install instructions and a product key. Does it go on another partition I have to make on the HDD (hard disk drive). I want to install it from a DVD and not a flash drive USB. Windows 10 wouldn't allow the Canon MX700 pixma printer to work and I don't want to change a good printer. I know some of you are tech savvy.

I learned that Windows 8.1 is not compatible with the computer (Dell Inspiron 580) The computer is not Hardware listed as compatible with Ubuntu. The printer cannot work with Windows 10. I would have to hope that nothing goes wrong with the Windows 7. My paranoia tells me that someone planned this incompatibility. The intelligence is not allowing the emotion to control the physical. It looks like I will eventually have to buy a new Windows 10 computer and a new printer. How do I wipe the hard drive clean because I will have to recycle the computer?
I would think formatting it should do it. In the olden days i remember when once a year i use to format my hard drive and dp a reinstall of the OS. That was in the xp days.
I think I'll keep my dad's windows 7 computer till it fails Amral I have the recovery media on DVDs. When there is no more support for Windows 7 from Microsoft in January of 2020 will I still be able to use the recovery media to install that operating system again? I know I wouldn't be able to install updates. I think Internet explorer 11 would not be supported and that is the browser I have on the computer. I think I should be able to use chrome from Google. I think I posted here on GNI that my father Balram died over a year ago. My father was dedicated to our family although I think the beast was controlling him and he was unaware of it because he did abuse my mother.
Support for Win7 ends on 01/14/2020 so if you can upgrade do it now. Is the cannon printer worth more than the laptop. That's the question. You might be able to get the printer to work if you set its drivers to Windows 7 compatibility mode.
I would feel bad to discard the Canon mx700 printer. It can do everything, fax, scan, and copy. It's a bigger than normal printer and I'm guessing it cost at least $300. I want to try Ubuntu operating system but I don't think I can get the printer working with that operating system. Is there another Linux distribution I can use instead of Ubuntu? The computer is a desktop model not a laptop. If I get Ubuntu installed and working successfully what printer can I use with Ubuntu?
I'm not a linux user so i won't be able to say.
I tried installing Ubuntu on my dad's Windows 7 computer but that failed with two or three attempts. I think the error message was bad sectors on the hard drive. I then made a boot installation disc of Linux mint and that installation succeeded so now I don't have to worry about buying a new computer. Guys and girls it's very complicated how to do partitions on the hard drive for Linux. Actually, you just need to shrink the c drive to 1 unallocated space and this can be done with Windows disk Management. My unallocated space that I set was about 300gb which is very large. My Canon mx700 printer was recognized but ran out of magenta ink so I couldn't test the printing.
