One of our city councilperson is named William Armstrong and the park that is adjacent to our subcommunity is called William Armstrong Dream Park. There is a FREE open air Jazz concert on the last Sunday of every month. Going to the park allows one to mix with other Jazz lovers but actually we can listen to the music from our home. Jazz is real sexy music. cool.gif

As much a I like the " Traditional Jazz " , I'm more into the Progessive stuff like Chick Corea with "Return to forever" , Al DeMeiola , Mahavishu Group with John MacLaughlin on guitar, Stanley Clarke , Weather Report etc. Also not forgeting Billy Cobman on drums and the Violin player "Neil Ponty "! Good music from back of the days.

Wow, these are all the jazz musicians I listened to in the 70's - 80's. Do you know that Chick Corea did a concert at the Cultural Center in GT back around 1980? The USIS brought him down and his show was subsidized at the affordable cost of 5 Guyana Dollars. It has to rank among the best shows that I saw in Guyana. The violinist I think you're referring to is Jean-Luc Ponty.

Yes my Brother , I couldn't believe that I had to opportunity to see Chick and his band at the Cultural Centre back in the days. And yes , it's Jean-Luc- Ponty. Man , back in the days I was real heavy into music. One time , I made friends with Micheal Archer that use to work at "GBC" , and one Saturday I went with my collection of Super Tramp " Breakfast in America , Uriah Heap etc and we "blew " the folks off. However I was banned after than ! Too hot to handle.
Andre do you a guy named , Kim , he use to play for the Graduates with Fluff Miller,and' Nut Head drummer . Kim use to play a mean, mean guitar.I met Fluff at our Brother's Funeral.
Boy, that is why , it;s real shame what has become of Guyana and it's People today.
I recall seeing "Third World " Live at the National Park ! At that time Third World was in their prime. Man was radical those days! One Love !

I saw that Third World show too at the National Park. I also saw Eddy Grant around the same time - two shows, one at Globe Cinema and then at the National Park. The only guy I remember by name from the Graduates was Fluff but I do remember that they had some pretty good musicians playing with them. I was friends with the son of the owner of the Graduates (from Section M, Campbellville) so I saw them practising and playing on many occasions. For my friend's farewell when he was leaving for Canada we had a mad party at his parents' home and the Graduates played. Those were the glory days in Guyana and I always cherish my years that I lived there.

My family friends " Jean Carrington took over ownership afterwards. She was related to Mr. Winslow Carrington , former Mr. Minister of Labour( Sister).There-after the party vibes went to Prashad Nagar. Lot's of Saturday after lunch " hangs " Talk of the Town " , Dog and the Bone , Bucacaneer Cove etc.Wow !Real cool. Andre do you remember Miroslav Vitous ?

Did they live next door to Sayers? What was her son's name? I think it was Carlton. I use to be in that street a lot. I met your brother in that street casually as a teenager. Probably ran into you a few times too. I hung out in all those places in GT back in the day. I saw Mackie and Curtis who owned the Cove a few years ago in NY. I do remember Vitus. Santana dabbled into that kind of music with the Mahavishnu Orchestra too. He took the name Devadip and made an album with John McLaughlin.
