Sugar workers were not given time out to vote in LGE. This is one of the reason Dr. Jagdeo wanted to make LGE day a national holiday.

Once again the Indians were denied the right to vote.

Funny. Jagdeo did NOT hold LGE, so why is he now worried that they couldn't take the day off.

They could call in sick if they cared enough.  In the USA we don't get a day off to vote!

Is the PNC a government for all the people of some of the people?

Suppose i said all the people, would you agree??

I think he should take some time out and spend it with his two kids. (I bet few of you didn't know that huh?) Time flies when kids are growing, you blink and they are grown.

Yes he was all over the Corentyne last week. He even tor the Corriverton Market taking pictures and hugging up the women.

Mark Benschop is “excited about victory”

Mark Benschop is “excited about victory”

For a number of years, Political and Social Activist, Mark Benschop, led the calls for the return of Local Government Elections. He wants to be Mayor of Georgetown and has been very vocal about that ambition.

With local government elections day finally here, Mr. Benschop and his Team Benschop which is contesting all of the constituencies in Georgetown, is confident of doing exceptionally well at the polls.

Outside of the major parties, Team Benschop has been the most visible on the campaign trail and spent the past few months moving in to various communities with its message of “we win, you win”.

“I am excited that after pushing for this for over 15 years, we finally have local government elections, and I am all excited and excited about victory, confident of victory and confident of a majority”, Benschop declared after casting his vote in the South Ruimveldt area.

He said he predicts that Team Benschop will move in to the Georgetown City Council with a landslide victory.

Mr. Benschop also issued a call for persons to head to the polls and exercise their democratic right, adding that a whether the turnout is large or low, Team Benschop remains confident of victory.

“The next time around, I hope that those who are part of this process will get it right and we will have a large voter turn out. But for now, we accept it and we accept the victory that we are looking for”, Benschop said.

Clearly the PPP is only attempting to be government of the sugar workers.

How come they are only whining about sugar workers having to work, so supposedly not being able to vote.

I don't hear the PPP whining about civil servants having to work, so unable to vote.

The President Votes!

President David Granger and First Lady, Mrs. Sandra Granger have cast their ballots in the first Local Government Elections in two decades in Guyana.

The First couple voted at the polling station located at Enterprise Primary School and the President expressed pride in that fact that after years of fighting for local democracy to be returned to Guyana, this has now been achieved for the benefit of all Guyanese.

Look at the second photograph - do you see what I see. I photograph of Solja Bai and Moses of the APNU/AFC party is displayed in the voting location?  How many other voting locations are displaying this  photo. Why are the photos of other party/parties or individuals running for elected office not being displayed? Is that allowed in Guyana? This appears to me to be unfair to the others who are not able to display their own material. It appears, as well, that if GECOM is allowing this, then GECOM is part and parcel of the rigging apparatus in Guyana. In Canada this is illegal and if it happens people could go to jail.. I know this for sure because I worked for Elections Canada.

Interesting that the brown bai KKK screams that blacks are indolent because they have kids out of wedlock, and now their hero is also raising two "bastard children" from some baby mamma.

now back to LGE, who is winning?

You will have to ask that question for each local district.  Its a local government election, so the only results which matter are within each community.

Only G/T results might have national importance, given the critical role that the city plays in Guyana.

Thanks to Burnham's 1983 legislation, there is no stigma attached to Guyanese children born out of wedlock. A few weeks ago we discussed this interesting question in another thread.

Thanks Caribny. I am very happy that LGE are finally being held in Guyana.

I was trying to get the thread away from Bibi's self absorption. But in my haste to do so I asked  a silly question.

That is an improvement over previous behavior. When she first began to post, she was stalking Kari daily, behaving like a woman scorned.  I can only suspect that he wasn't interested in her, and so she became enraged.

Apparently you were born out of wedlock, a disturbing trend. The environment of a single parent family has left great psychological scars that manifest in your hatred for Indos who are cherish the nuclear family.

Not only blacks. One poster deplored Rupert Roopnarine's daughter for giving birth recently out of wedlock.

I am the product of a nuclear family, which also had a strong extended family before destruction of Guyana by BOTH the PPP and the PNC forced migration.

I can however tell you that in my extended the kids from single parent households have done much better than those where there has been a divorce.  In fact those are where the strongest parent child bonds are.

So why don't you deal with high levels of divorce and the destruction that these selfish parents bring on their kids when they behavior descends to childish self destruction?

Deal also with the fact that the destructive aspects of families exist among the poor, regardless of type.  These women don't marry these men, because they men bring NOTHING to the table.  These days its often easier for uneducated females to find work than it is for men.  And for some biological reason many females don't feel complete unless they become mothers.  Why this is so is best addressed to them, and to society at large.

Indeed we can see the rampant domestic violence that occurs among poor Indians.  Yes, married, but a VERY DYSFUNCTIONAL existence.  This contributed no doubt to the high levels of substance abuse, and suicides that one can find among these families.  Rum is the curse of the poor Indian family, and now we can add drug abuse to this, since the PPP gave carte blanche to drug trafficking in Guyana!
