Madhuri Dixit: I am working in Bollywood as per my plan

Actress Madhuri Dixit, who will be seen in two upcoming Hindi films, is happy to work with a new crop of talented actors and says she has been working in Bollywood as per her own plan.

Madhuri is set to stage a comeback in Bollywood after a gap of six years with two projects - Vishal Bharadwaj's home production Dedh Ishqiya and Anubhav Sinha-produced Gulab Gang.

She has also done an item song in Karan Johar's home production Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani, which released today.

The item song,Ghagra, features her and new age actor Ranbir Kapoor.

"I don't why people call it a comeback... It is a mystery to me. Everyone works according to their plan. The vibe from industry people is positive... People love me and are waiting to see ,Gulab Gang and Dedh Ishqiya," Madhuri told.

After her marriage in 1999 to a US-based surgeon, she did Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Devdas in 2002. She then took a break and staged a comeback with Aditya Chopra's home production Aaja Nachle in 2007.

Despite missing from the silver screen, the 46-year-old filmstar was very much present on small screen. She appeared as one of the judges in TV dance reality show Jhalak Dikhla Jaa in season four and five. She will be again judging the show in its sixth edition that starts from June 1.

After marriage, Madhuri relocated to US for almost a decade. But in 2011, she shifted her base back to Mumbai along with her family.

Gulab Gang, directed by newcomer Soumik Sen, also stars Juhi Chawla, Mahie Gill, Shilpa Shukla and others.

"I have done everything in this film - fight scene, dancing and singing. It is an entertaining film. We are saying quite a few things through this film but in an entertaining way. It is not a heavy film which delivers sermons. It was good working with a new crop of actors. They were full of energy, have ideas and are confident. It was wonderful working with talented actors," she added.

In the late 1980s and early 90s, Madhuri and Juhi Chawla were considered on-screen competitors. But now, they are working together on Gulab Gang, loosely based on a group of women fighting against social injustice.

"I have worked with Juhi for the first time (in this film) and she is a wonderful co-star. We have some niceinteresting scenes together," Madhuri said.

For Gulab Gang, Madhuri did sing a few lines with her mother Snehlata. "They wanted a voice for a particular sequence, not a proper song. With a couple of instruments playing in the background, they wanted the actress (Madhuri) to break into a song. They wanted to make it realistic, so when the director asked me, I thought about it and agreed." Madhuri said the artistic talent in her is because of her mother, who has interest in music.

"My mother couldn't learn dance but made her daughters learn it. We got those things from her. I took her aside and asked her to sing one line for me (for 'Gulab Gang' song). She sang and I was like "mom you have made your debut at 80," she said. Her other project is Dedh Ishqiya, directed by Abhishek Chaubey. The first part (Ishqiya in 2010) got rave reviews and healthy box office collections.

For the sequel the makers have retained lead actors Naseeruddin Shah and Arshad Warsi. Madhuri is expecting positive response to the sequel as well.

Madhuri Dixit: Dances and songs are now technically better

Madhuri Dixit: Dances and songs are now technically better

Madhuri Dixit attributes her dancing abilities to her mother.
When it comes to dancing, Madhuri Dixit is inimitable. The 1980s and 1990s dancing diva, who is creating magic again by teaming up with current heartthrob Ranbir Kapoor in the song Ghagra, says that dance forms haven't changed, but have gotten better technically.

"Nothing has changed much. I don't see that much of a change. The way the camera is handled and the way it moves is more restless. But songs are songs, just technically they are better," Madhuri, known for hit numbers Ek do teen and Dhak dhak, among others, told.

Ghagra is a special song from Ayan Mukerji directed Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. Releasing Friday, the romantic drama has been produced by Karan Johar under his banner Dharma Productions.

The actress said she had a blast shooting for the song.

"It was wonderful, we had a blast. Karan and me gel together. Ayan is a fabulous director, I really liked his film Wake Up Sid. I was very impressed with it. It was very well made. Then there was Ranbir and that is his introduction song. I have seen him in so many films and I loved his Badtameez dil," she said.

The actress attributes her dancing abilities to her mother.

"It was her desire that we learn dancing as she couldn't," said the actress, who teamed up with her mother for a song in Gulab Gang.

"It was wonderful. There was this portion Soumik Sen wanted me to sing and he asked me if I was ready. I was like, lets do it. We recorded a part of it. It was fun, my mom also sang. It was a great feeling to see mom in that recording theatre," added the 46-year-old.

Madhuri carries forward her love for dance with Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 6. She will be seen co-judging the dance reality show with Karan and Remo D'Souza.

When asked how she feels when contestants dance on her popular numbers, she said: "It is great to watch them because it is their interpretation. I try to see if they are getting themselves into it. That is what impresses me."

In terms of acting, she just wrapped up Gulab Gang and is about to finish Dedh Ishqiya. The films mark her comeback on the big screen after six years, post Aaja Nach Le.

Talking about the two films, she said: "I am thrilled. That is why I did these two movies. They are very powerful roles and I enjoyed working on them."

What kinds of roles does she look for?

"The roles should be powerful enough and I should enjoy working on them. It should be something that when I wake up in the morning, I should be looking forward to it," she said.

Post marriage with US-based doctor Shriram Nene in 1999, Madhuri stayed away from the greasepaint, arclights and cameras for a while. But fans never stopped showering their love on her.

She felt that with adulation comes responsibility too.

"It is wonderful that they love me so much. I also think a sense of responsibility comes as you have to maintain that... every time you dance, you have to see what different you can do. When people love you, adore you and give you that much attention, it comes with a sense of responsibility too," she said.

The actress is known for hits like Tezaab, Ram Lakhan, Saajan, and Beta.

Want to take the passion of dancing to

everyone: Madhuri Dixit

Want to take the passion of dancing to everyone: Madhuri Dixit
Madhuri will next be seen in movies like Dedh Ishqiya and Gulab Gang.
Madhuri Dixit has her hands full with two films, a reality show, endorsements and now an all new online dance academy, which she wants to use as a platform to reach out to those who want to learn to shake a leg.

Post her marriage, Madhuri had relocated to the US for almost a decade. It was in October 2011 that she shifted her base back to Mumbai along with her family. And since then, the veteran actress has been a busy bee.

"Right now I am busy... I have two films (Dedh Ishqiya and Gulab Gang), I have Jhalak Dikhla Jaa coming up, I have this online dance academy. I think I need to take a breather now," Madhuri told PTI in an exclusive interview.

The 45-year-old is not only known for her acting skills, but also for her fabulous dancing skills. She recently announced the launch of Dance With Madhuri, an online dance academy, where you can pick up the moves from the dancing diva herself.

"It is the passion towards dancing that got me into this. I love dancing. I have been dancing since I was three-year-old. I want to take the passion of dancing to every household, make people dance and enjoy dancing," Madhuri said.

"Also my fans have loved me, my dancing, lot of people told me they wished they could learn dance from me. So I felt this was the good opportunity to give back all the love and affection that I have got from people," she said.

For over a decade, Madhuri ruled the roost and danced her way into the hearts of the audience with popular numbers including Dhak Dhak Karne Laga, Ek Do Teen, Humko Aaj Kal Hai, Chane Ke Khet Mein, Didi Tera Devar Deewana, Choli Ke Peechhe, Mera Piya Ghar Aaya, Kay Sera Sera and Maar Daala among others.

Dance with Madhuri is a revolutionary product, which allows dance enthusiasts to enroll into the programme through their Facebook, Gmail or Yahoo id.

"This venture is one of its kind. There is no dance academy that is online. We are blind.. we don't know how people will react, what response we will get. Also it can be a medium to find new talent. We want to bring different dance forms be it classical, western or Bollywood style under one roof," Madhuri said.

Through this online dance academy, the 45-year-old aims to reach out to dance lovers and fans across the globe, where they can get to learn dancing from her and a team of choreographers.

"I think if you have bricks and walls you teach dance to 200-300 people but this way (online) you can reach out to maximum number of people and they can hop on to it at their leisure, pace. They can learn dance whenever they want," she said.

"The main thing for me is you reach out to lot of people... Time is no barrier whenever you want you can go online and dance. As time is becoming a commodity today, its very rare... you can learn it anytime you want," she added.

Initially, Madhuri would be giving lessons and for this, she has choosen two of her popular songs Maye Ni Maye from Hum Aapke Hai Kaun and Ek Do Teen from Tezaab.

Later, she will rope in choreographers as well. Madhuri's dancing journey started from the age of three.

"My sister used to learn dancing.. I used to stand behind her and imitate her. The sir over there told my sister if I am keen to learn dancing then why not send me too here. That is how the journey started. Dance has been always close to my heart," she said.

"I got to work with wonderful choreographers like Saroj Khan, Prabhu Deva, Chinni Prakash, Kamal master, from whom I learned so much and also my guruji Birju Maharaj ji and Vasant Rao Gadhge. It has been a wonderful journey. I love dancing. It is very spiritual experience for me," she added.

My sons are untouched by my fame:

Madhuri Dixit

| Aug 7, 2013,

Madhuri Dixit's fame as a popular Bollywood actress hasn't cast its shadow on her sons Arin and Raayan, who she says are unaffected by their mother's stardom.

The 46-year-old, who is raising both her children in Mumbai with her doctor husband Shriram Madhav Nene likes it that her children get excited to see her on TV.

"I have no idea if they understand it and I like it that way. I want them to be as innocent as possible. Even today they come running to me and say that mom you are on TV. My little one comes to me and says, 'really are you that famous'. But they are untouched by it and that's the way I like it," said Madhuri.

The Hum Aapke Hain Kaun actress is judging the current season of a dance reality show on TV along with filmmaker Karan Johar and choreographer-director Remo D'Souza.

Madhuri, a prolific dancer herself, wants youngsters to take up classical dancing as it is closer to Indian culture.

"There is more of western dancing coming in because I think today youth wants everything fast and it is easier to learn. Our classical is where the whole treasure lies. Once you learn classical you can learn any form of dance. So I think it is very important to have that base. I would urge people to learn more classical," she said.

After her marriage, Madhuri relocated to the US for almost a decade. In 2011, she shifted back to Mumbai along with her family.

She is working on two Bollywood films - Gulaab Gang and Dedh Ishqiya.
