MoU signed for US$20M Marriott Courtyard Hotel at CJIA

R. Bassoo & Sons Ltd has announced that it has entered into initial agreements with Marriott Hotels International and the Government of Guyana to design and build a Marriott Courtyard at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA).

These agreements follow the company’s response to the Government’s request for proposal (RFP) and include; a Letter of Intent (LOI) with Marriott; a completed market study by Hotel Valuation Services (HVS), one of the foremost hotel valuation firms and a conceptual design by Urbahn Architects (New York’s 2019 Design Firm of the Year).

Republic Bank of Trinidad and Tobago has also made an indicative offer of financing.

Republic Bank has arranged over US$100 Million in financing for other real estate projects in Guyana including Movietowne, the Pegasus Corporate Offices and Suites, and the Georgetown Marriott hotel.

The Marriott Courtyard at the CJIA will be the second Marriott hotel brand in Guyana and is anticipated to be open by 2023.

The LOI with Marriott Hotels International caters to a 6 story Marriott Courtyard with 140 rooms and amenities. The hotel will be a one-minute drive from the entrance of the CJIA and is expected to accommodate airline crews and staff, business personnel, diplomats, and other travelers.

It is projected to cost US$20 Million and is fully supported by the Government of Guyana and Go-invest. Dr. Peter Ramsaroop, CEO of Go-invest, has illustrated his eagerness to work with investors towards the continued growth and transformation of the Guyanese economy. At this crucial stage of our country’s development, the Government of Guyana has laid the foundation for the rapid growth of the tourism industry and more specifically the development of luxury hotel brands.

Mr. Ramesh Ghir, CEO of CJIA Corporation, points out that the hotel will not only benefit the airport and its stakeholders but create employment opportunities for over 300 persons living along the upper East Bank/Timehri area. Construction is expected to begin in mid-2021 and will be led by Bassoo Building and Civil Engineering Contractors with support from qualified sub-contractors with technical experience in hotel construction.

This is a good idea. It will alleviate the problem of people having to travel late at night after arriving at CJIA. This should create some safety for those travelers also.

Do you think the PPP care about people's safety, during all their years in office.  When they ignore most of their ordinary voters, after an election ?

You must be shiting in your pants every time someone does something progressive in Guyana. Day after day, week after week, something progressive is happening in the country. It is a pity the PNC did not have the insight to be progressive.

Go tell that to the ordinary voters that the PPP ignore after an election. How many will be able to afford the high price hotels, that most in the PPP approve to build, for kickbacks.

Why would they go to live in hotels when they have their own homes? You should go to Guyana and see for yourself, the big houses the poor people now have.  In every plantation, the houses keep getting bigger and better.  The roads keep getting broader and better.  More and more hotels are built.  New businesses are being opened and the banks are willing to lend a helping hand.  Indians proved that they are very progressive.

Thank god the PPP won.

You are one of those PPP losers who allow the PPP to show you want they want you to see. Go to some cemeteries in Berbice and see how many houses are built by homeless people, with mud dams and no water. Go live with some and use the outhouse during a flood.  These are PPP voters that the PPP ignored.  Only the PPP elite are allowed to have better things, I know cause we visited some of them.

You haven't been to the sugar estates and see the beautiful houses the poor people built. There are no mud dams and there is water everywhere.

The PPP ignores no one.  You are a liar and an uncivilized person.

What did the PNC do for poor people?  All ventures the PNC did were in black neighbourhoods none in Indian areas.

The poor people are getting richer in Guyana. There are jobs being created every day.   They are being educated and now they are using computers that Jagdeo gave them. Jagdeo also gave face masks to prevent them from getting COVID-19 and that was during the Coalition days.  The PNC gave them nothing not even with taxpayers' money.

Why was the Pradoville land case against Ali thrown out, after the PPP became the government ?  Crooks of the same feather gather together.

Another lie you are making up and believe to be true. The land case had no merit.

Weird?  The man is insane.  If you know his family maybe you could talk to them about getting him committed.

How come everyone is rushing to build structures under the PPP. Jagdeo is known for his connections with crooks. Could it be laundering their money in Guyana, like Raja Khan ?

Granger found out that Ramjattan was using his position as a PNC minister to do just that.
