I was actually talking to Cain, but since you insist - Yes - I have stayed at the Guyana Marriott.  It is one of the best Marriott hotels and it's run by a former Ritz Carlton General Manager.  As a Marriott rewards member, I have also stayed at several Marriott properties around the world and I like the one in Guyana better than most.

Haha. You should get out and visit the Marriott Marquis or the East Side Marriott and see what a real Marriott is like. The one in Guyana is more like a Courtyard Marriott, three star at best.

I have been to both of those several times.  Nothing compares to a brand new building with everything sparking clean and you get pepperpot and breadfruit for breakfast in the morning while gazing at the estuary where the Demerara River meets the Atlantic Ocean.  And the feeling of Home Sweet Home!

The Guyana Marriott is nothing compared to those two and I've been to all three. Your emotional attachment to Guyana probably gives you an artificial high when you watch the Demerara meet the Atlantic. However, that exact spot is where they drain the sewerage from Georgetown. Ask drugb, he was swimming in it and tasting it. The mere thought of that alone turns me off completely. If I want to see the Atlantic, I'd prefer going to a real beach where the water is clean, and not muddy and full of shyte. The poolside at the Marriott is drab and has nothing going for it. Pegasus poolside is ten times better and kicking on a Saturday night. Added to that, the customer service in the Marriott, as in most places in Guyana, is nothing to brag about. And the price they want you to pay for breakfast. I'd rather go to a small restaurant in GT. Food at the Marriott is ridiculously overpriced.

Isn't the reason why Pegasus is "kicking on a Saturday night" because that is where the prostitutes hang out?  Most of the people I saw at the Marriott are foreigners and business people.

I didn't see anyone at the Pegasus who I can identify as a prostitute. In fact, I found the atmosphere there to be very family oriented. I saw many children playing at the playground while their parents were having dinner and drinks. Pegasus poolside just has a much better atmosphere than the Marriott. Between December to April, I spent about three months in Guyana and I must have gone to every night spot in Georgetown while I was there. The Marriott is just drab and has nothing much to offer as far as entertainment goes. A lot of hotel guests are interested in some form of entertainment as it would be boring otherwise.

When KNews report on what was built under Jagdeo/Ramotar presidency, they make it sound like the building is falling apart. If the Marriott needs repair, that's the contractors failure to deliver good work. Jagdeo is not a magician. I heard someone mention Skeldon Factory (again). That's another failure due to contractor's faulty work. Name a country that doesn't have problems of its own. Only Guyanese behave like this.

The Marriott does not need any repairs.  This is a scam by the PNC to squander money.

I can speculate on many things, but I am being kind not to jump the gun in these matters.

Chinese supermarkets in Guyana sell products manufactured overseas and in Guyana at lower prices.  They are attracting more shoppers because of that.  Guyanese people are yet to learn that people will go shop some where else if the prices are just a few dollars less.

That's what you would like to believe but that's not what it is. Chinese factories can produce 1/20 of the cost with their cheap labor.

Massy, Survival and Bounty supermarkets are always full. Many Guyanese will not shop for food at the Chinese supermarket. None of my friends go to the Chinese supermarket. They have their crowd but competition is there.

The Chinese should not be allowed to import/sell anything that can be produced in Guyana. Then again there are a lot of things they shouldn't have been allowed to do like rape our forests.

the US has very rigid laws as to labeling and accuracy as to what constitute food grade products and what constitute the materials in products especially children clothing and toys. Yet the Chinese try to bypass these laws and sometimes they get away with it.

Guyana has no such laws. I would not buy food products, or toys from the chinese. Anything I buy would have to be vetted careful as not to endanger my life or that of my family and friends.  I have seen on youtube the inferior wiring for electrical lines that the Chinese sell in guyana. I bet they pass off lots of contraband and fake products.

There are a lot of counterfeit Chinese clothes on sale in Guyana. Ralph Lauren and American Eagle are among the most popular brands I saw. I can tell the difference in the quality of the knock off clothing in comparison to the real thing but it's cheap so a lot of young people buy them. The Cuban traders also buy a lot of the counterfeit stuff for resale in Cuba. Walk into the Chinese clothing stores on Regent Street and there will always be a few Cubans trying to negotiate a deal.

The original Marriott corporation was split into two corporations some years back. Host Marriott Corporation and Marriott Corporation. Host Marriott Corporation own their hotels ( hotel building / land). While the Marriott Corporation just franchise the brand name for a fee and make surprise inspection visits.

The person who wrote this article is completely unaware of the fact that the Marriott franchise carries a minimum standard that has to be upheld by each hotel around the world.  If, any of the nonsense people are writing here was true, Marriott would have closed down the hotel long ago.

The one thing that distinguishes the Guyana Marriott from the others is that it's one of their newest properties which carries a state of the art security system and other amenities that some of the older hotels in their chain don't have as yet.

And Roberto Grisi who is the General Manager is one of the best in the business, having managed the Ritz Carlton in Aruba among other hotels before.

I absolutely agree. The Marriott franchise has a high standard and a reputation as being one of the best worldwide. That's why I asked if there was some confusion between disrepair and unfinished construction. Were there any Marriott officials present during the construction and at the opening?

I've been going to Guyana on a regular basis since I left as my mother always maintained our family residence in Guyana. From last December to April, I spent a total of about three months in Guyana. If the Admins have logs, they can verify that I signed into GNI from a Guyana IP address. I've been to the Marriott several times and I'm very familiar with the hotel and most of what's going on in Georgetown. I went to Linden for a few days and also made a trip to Lethem and several other parts of the interior. I have two cousins who are pilots in Guyana and many times they would call me up to fly into the interior. There is not much that the Piss Pot Porters can try to fool me about Guyana.

As the leader of the Piss Pot Porters, you would never understand what it is to be truthful. Your record here of lies and deception speaks for itself. I'm not privy to the information that the building engineers have which determined the amount of repairs the hotel needs. Surely you don't expect that I have that kind of access unless I was working with the hotel or the government agency responsible for maintaining it. I'll wait for it to be published in the press.
