A North Dakota man's self-penned, two-word obituary has been published in his local newspaper.
Douglas Legler's death notice in the Forum of Fargo-Moorhead read simply: "Doug died."
The masterpiece of brevity featured a photo of the 85-year-old jokester having the last laugh.
Janet Stoll, Mr Ledger's daughter, told the newspaper: "He said over and over, when I die I want my obituary to just say 'Doug Died.'"
She added: "He was very lighthearted and had a great sense of humour."
Ms Stoll filled in some of the blanks left by her father's pithy sign-off.
Mr Legler worked as a lorry driver, vending machine repairman and painter of farm equipment.
In his spare time he liked to sing country music and occasionally visit the casino.
His sense of humour masked past heartbreak - he lost his partner unexpectedly last autumn and his wife, Ms Stoll's mother, died 17 years ago.
Mr Legler's funeral was held on Thursday.
