Is it customary in England to have your salad after a meal or as we do in NA,before the meal?

In Yorkshire they have the dessert before the main course.

Vegetable salad is usually served after meals, however now its custom to mix some veg and fruits together in a small salad bowl and eat along with your main course. You just stick your fork over to salad bowl
