Subject: Address for A. Rita

This morning I received news that Aunt Rita Gwendoline Lou-Hing, nÉe Young, passed away last night. I spoke with her son Ronald and learnt that she suffered an aneurism at about 1:00 pm yesterday and was rushed to the hospital. The doctors advised that her situation was very serious and there was not much hope of her surviving. She was moved from emergency to a private room to await the arrival of her children and grands. Not long after the last of her seven children came to her bedside she passed away at about 10:00 pm. Aunt Rita was 87 years of age and had told me a few months ago that she was looking forward to celebrating her 88th in grand style at the end of this year. It appeared then that this would not be a problem because she looked well and quite nimble. Unfortunately her hopes will be unfulfilled. Arrangements for her burial have not been made as yet but she would be joining her departed husband, Stanley Clyde Lou-Hing (1915-1990) in their joint plot in Mountain View Cemetery, Vancouver. May she rest in peace.

Rita Young is the grand-daughter of James Yang-A-Pat who arrived in British Guiana as an indentured labourer on the 4th May 1861 aboard the Saldanha. She is one of ten siblings and is survived only by her elder sister, Beryl Layne, who lives in Burnaby in the Greater Vancouver area.

Trev.    - I was hoping to get confirmation that Mike Layne of Tropitonics is the son of Beryl –clyde[Duncan]

Tola : The Tropitonics  is steel band in Vancouver, formed from the original Moonlighters in the 1960s in North Vancouver, Mara country.

Many of you might remember Trev Sue-a Quan in Vancouver  who wrote a few books about Chinese immigration to Guyana. Cane Reapers, etc.
Clive Duncan is heavily involved with Sir James Douglas history. Scottish James Douglas was born in Guyana and was the  first governor of British Columbia. Two of his statues were erected by the highway at Mahaica and at Fort Langley, near Vancouver.
RIP Aunt Rita.
