Sorry for any inconvenience, but I'm in a terrible situation. I came down here to (Istanbul, Turkey) for a program, last night on my way back to my hotel room I was robbed at gunpoint, my wallet and other valuables were stolen off me, leaving my passport and life safe. My luggage is still in custody of the hotel management pending when I make payment on outstanding bills I owe. I called my bank for a wire transfer but it has proven almost Impossible to operate my account from here as they made me understand international transactions take 7 working days to be effective which i can't wait. I need you to help me with a loan to pay my hotel bills and get my self home. I will reimburse you soon as I get back Home. I will appreciate whatever you can assist me with. All I really need is about 2,000 euros but if the whole amount can't be covered, I would gladly appreciate any amount you can put in to help. WU is the best way to get the funds to me. Please kindly let me know if this is possible so that I can provide my wiring details needed to make the transfer. Looking forward to hearing from you, I will check my email every 30 minutes for your reply because it's the only way i can reach you.

This is a scam. I got the identical letter last year about a dear friend of mine. Do not fall for this nonsense.

I get these all the time. I once got a call from a man who sounded like a man with an Indian accent. He told me he is from the IRS and I owed the IRS. When I was done with him he hung up. I told him so many times to go "F" himself, that he finally gave up.

Some time ago a friend in Berbice had her yahoo account hacked and we got mail asking to send cash to a Western Union office in London, England. We phoned the person in Berbice telling them what was happening.

We contacted the police fraud section and provide a statement, who in turn contacted Western Union in Canada and London.

They suggested that we reply to the mail telling the person that the cash was sent.

When the guy went to pickup the cash, he was taken away by the Police of London.

Latest scam in the tri state area involves Spanish people. You get a call from them saying they have kidnapped a close family member and demand a ransom via a wire transfer to an account in Puerto Rico. You actually hear someone screaming in the background. Happened to my FIL.
