Well, I knew Teekah well and I always tell people he was my mentor in the PPP from 1970 to 1975. Teekah earned a PPP parliamentarian's salary up to 1973 general elections. From 1973 to 1975 Teekah earned a salary at the Mirror newspaper. He and his wife lived in a small cottage in Alberttown, which I visited twice. Teekah wasn't a smoker or rum shop client; he lived frugally.

Teekah joined the PNC in August 1975 and was appointed Minister of Education shortly after. He earned a senior cabinet minister's salary. There was no need for him to "tief." As a minister he accessed a loan from the Guyana National Cooperative Bank to buy a property in Prashad Nagar.

Teekah was killed in 1979, that is, nearly 4 years after serving as a minister. After his death Burnham made sure Teekah's wife got a good widow's pension. I was told that she also collected a tidy sum from Teekah's life insurance policy. The GNCB loan was written off.

Considering Teekah's wife's total assets from the above as well as an inheritance from her father, the late GAWU President Harry Lall, it is not inconceivable that Teekah's wife migrated to Canada with lots of money.
