The opposition Peopleβs Progressive Party Civic (PPP/C) on Friday said it was able to successfully serve its request for a recount in District Four to several Deputy Returning Officers (DROs).
The request was served just hours before the deadline for that request expired at noon today.
The PPP had to take the route of serving this request to several deputies in the face of challenges to make contact with the Returning Officer, Clairmont Mingo.

Protest actions are ongoing at Herstelling, East Bank Demerara (EBD), as well as Lusignan, East Coast Demerara, and Bath (West Coast Berbice).
INews understands that people are also picketing at Bee Hive, ECD.
Guyanese are calling for GECOM to follow the laws of the land, i.e. to have the results verified before declaration.
Already, the international community including members of the diplomatic corp. and foreign observers have labelled the process as lacking transparency and credibility.
The ABCE countries are also calling on President David Granger not to transition into a new government as it could be βunconstitutionalβ.

The Peopleβs Progressive Party (PPP) calls on all of our supporters to remain calm and act in a peaceful manner during this period.
While we understand the hurt, frustration and fear about electoral fraud being perpetuated against the Guyanese people, we have the solidarity of the international community.
Today alone, March 6, 2020, statements have emanated from: the diplomatic community in Guyana; the international election observer missions; the US State Department; the representatives of the United States of America (USA) Congress; British Parliamentarian, Barry Gardiner; The Elder, an international NGO founded by Nelson Mandela, and other international organizations, as well as local stakeholders.
They have all made it clear that as it stands results of the Elections cannot be βcredibly declaredβ and there can be no swearing in of a president since such an action would be illegal.
The PPP agrees with the international community; there can be no swearing in of a new president under the current circumstances. The Party wishes to also warn that public officers, especially constitutional office holders, facilitating such an illegal action would be complicit in the perpetuation of electoral fraud in Guyana.
The Party also agrees with the international community that there must a return to the process of verifying the results of the March 2, 2020 General and Regional Elections for Region 4, using the Statements of Polls, as required by law. This is the only process that will deliver free and fair elections and ensure that the will of the Guyanese people is not subverted. The Peopleβs Progressive Party continues to work towards this objective.

Residents protesting in West Coast Berbice are calling for a fair electoral process following the declaration of Region Four votes.
The protest action resulted in the attack of Police Officers and a school bus Friday. Several policemen ran away and were subsequently rescued by residents in a moving vehicle.
One of the officers received injuries to his foot.
A school bus taking children and teachers to school was also attacked on the Bath Settlement Public Road.
Four students were reported to be injured with bruises about their bodies. They were taken to the Fort Wellington Hospital where they were treated and sent away.
A car was also set alight in Bath Settlement, where the protest action began since 09:00hrs.
Protest actions are ongoing at Number 12 Village, Cotton Tree and Bush Lot.
Sections of the road are blocked off, halting the free flow of traffic and fires are being lit.
Over in the Corentyne Region, there is a massive crowd in Canje and Tain.

Police firing teargas at protesters at Lusignan Village, East Coast Demerara.
Police Friday afternoon fired teargas and broke up a protest at Lusignan, East Coast Demerara.
The police action followed the burning of a utility pole that was placed across the Lusignan Public Road.
The decision by the police to disperse the crowd came after top leaders of the Peopleβs Progressive (PPP)- Frank Anthony and Anil Nandlall- appealed to their supporters to go home.
The Railway Embankment Road was the only thoroughfare.
About five supporters of A Partnership for National Unity+Alliance For Change (APNU+AFC) were seen moving towards the PPP supporters at Lusignan but eventually they retreated.
Lusignan was not the only place that PPP supporters blocked to protest the outcome of results from the March 2,2020 general elections based on unverified results from Region 4, authorities said.
Riot squad police were on standby in a 36-seater bus, but they did not take any action until the situation became uncontrollable shortly after 4 PM.
At Cotton Tree, West Coast Berbice , residents there blocked roads with objects, but at Bath Settlement, West Coast Berbice, supporters burned tires.
At Tain Village, Corentyne, more than 1,000 persons blocked the road.
Across on the West Coast Demerara, authorities there reported that there were several road blockages at Canal Number 1, Demerara Harbour Bridge Junction, Cornelia Ida, and Bell West. At Canal Number 2, residents there burned tires. However, authorities said the protesters were gradually dispersing on their own.
Police in βAβ Division, Superintendent Azore said there was no political unrest there. βThere is no disturbance or uprising in our division,β he said.

Separately, the United States State Department issued very strong words against the Guyanese authorities who are responsible for the electoral stalemate.
The PPP appealed to its supporters not to go on the streets and breach the law. βThe PPP urges our supporters to ensure that none of their actions are in contradiction with the laws of Guyana; stay home and await further guidance from the Party,β the PPP said.

GEORGETOWN β Diplomats and foreign observers on Thursday questioned preliminary results of Guyana's presidential election as incumbent David Granger claimed victory and the opposition denounced fraud, setting up a showdown in the oil-rich South American nation.
The former British colony on Monday voted to choose who will oversee an oil boom that promises to be transformative for the poor country thanks to recent crude discoveries off its coast.
Opposition leaders denounced "thievery," and diplomats from the United States, the European Union, Britain and Canada said results released by the elections council for one of the country's regions were not credible.
"This is an embarrassment that this emerging oil giant has to be sitting here at this table now and speaking on the brink of a dictatorship," said Kian Jabour of opposition party A New and United Guyana.
A disputed election could derail the country's plans to use its newfound oil wealth to spur economic development. It would fuel long-simmering ethnic tensions between the country's Afro-Guyanese and those of Indian descent, who have grown suspicious that the other is seeking to control oil revenue.
Opposition leaders said the elections commission altered results from an area called Region Four, the most populous electoral district, to give Granger, the sitting president, of the APNU-AFC coalition, a wide margin over Irfaan Ali of the opposition PPP party.
Former President Bharrat Jagdeo said the commission's results for Region Four did not match the sum of votes tallied in the statements of poll - the official documents that reflect voting results at each individual polling station.
"Based on our observation of today's (election's commission) proceedings at their Region 4 office, and the fact that the full count was not completed, we question the credibility of the Region 4 results," the heads of the four diplomatic missions said in a joint statement.
GRANGER CELEBRATES
The electoral commission has not yet proclaimed a winner. Representatives of the commission did not respond to requests for comment.
In the face of the criticism, Granger gave celebratory statements to a rally of supporters on Thursday.
"We are here to serve you for the next five years," he said. "I thank you from the bottom of my heart. When the sun rises ... the president is sworn in again."
The Region Four results were also questioned by the Commonwealth Observer Group, made up mostly of former British colonies, as well as the Carter Center, founded by former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and his wife and which in 1992 helped Guyana hold a free election after decades of rigged votes.
Critics had for days complained of unnecessary delays and what they called stalling tactics, including the unexpected hospitalization of a key election official.
Guyana, which has a population of less than 800,000, is expected to become a major oil producer in the coming years as a consortium of companies including Exxon Mobil Corp taps into 8 billion barrels of oil and gas off the country's coast.
The country's politics has remained divided along ethnic lines since Guyana's 1966 independence from Britain.
Granger's APNU-AFC coalition is largely made up of black Guyanese descended from African slaves while the PPP mostly represents descendants of Indian laborers who arrived in the 19th century to work on sugar plantations.

He also received 60 packets (4 SOP in a packet for a total of 240 SOP) of SOPs for national Election and 60 Packets ( 4 SOPs in a packet for a total of 240) of SOPs for Regional elections.
In addition, he received 60 packets of tally sheets for General Election and 60 packets of tally sheets for Regional Rlection.
We will be checking to see that he accounts for these. And they will have to be reconciled with those that were used.
