DPI, Guyana, Wednesday, March 18, 2020

His Excellency David Granger has expressed disappointment with the withdrawal of the high-level CARICOM observer team from Guyana’s electoral process.

In a statement issued yesterday, President Granger stated that the initiative was based on an understanding that a national recount of the ballots cast at the March 2, 2020, General and Regional Elections would be executed.

“The Initiative saw the arrival of a High-Level Team of five distinguished Caribbean professionals to oversee the process…the team, unfortunately, was unable to commence its task,” the President said.

The CARICOM team was chaired by the former Attorney-General and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Dominica Francine Baron and included Minister of Finance of Grenada Anthony Boatswain; Senior Lecturer in the Department of Government of UWI Cynthia Barrow-Giles; Chief Electoral Officer of Barbados Angela Taylor; and Chief Elections Officer of Trinidad and Tobago Fern Narcis-Scope.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court granted an injunction filed by a citizen preventing the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) from commencing a “‘total national recount.”

The Head of State said the court action “has curtailed further our thrust towards reaching a transparent conclusion to the 2020 General and Regional Elections.”

The matter will be heard in the Supreme Court on March 20, 2020.

President Granger maintained that he will abide by the decisions of the court and the Guyana Elections Commission.

“I iterate my commitment to the due completion of all electoral requirements and the conclusion of the process under the auspices of the Commission and in the interest of all Guyanese.”

He assured his commitment to the electoral process and the declaration of results by the Elections Commission in accordance with the law.

The only surprise is if he decides to abides by the constitution!

Bad times ahead for Guyana. It is only a matter of time for the coalition to be sworn in. Sanctions will kick in, but which nations will follow through on the sanctions promises?  Back in LFSB times, I don't believe we had any sanctions. What is different now?

@Nehru, imagine the man’s own son in law, an insider and minister broke ranks. The mother of Kathy hughs, an insider broke ranks and this joker thinks by some miracle, 60,000 votes will materialize in Region 4!

The world is wrong, DAG, Lowenfield, Mingo are right!

Back in LFSB days we had C. Jorgon and his fly mouth always angry wife running koolie affairs.  I hope the PPP learn from that stupidity and do the following.

1.  Stay away from the crooked China Chinaman.

2. Stay away from Putin white supremacy.

3. Stay away from  crazy white Arabs and brown Pakis who want to blow up the place.

4. Last but not least.  Keep that short fat girl and her big mouth away from the American embassy.

5. See Cuba as a country where the people are not free.

@Former Member, I don’t think it will end like that. Burnham got no sanctions due to Cold War politics. However, the US squeezed and destroyed the economy.  Remember they blocked funding of the hydroelectric project!

The world is bearing witness!  The truth is on full display. The credibility of the international community is at stake!

Bai, the votes casted on March 2 for region 4 has the Coalition winning region 4 but their advantage is not enough to overcome the PPP's advantage overall. Everyone of Mingo's desperate action strongly suggest that.

Thank you Mits. I don't know any of that shit. My guess is that visas will be the least of their problems. Look how Ali didn't lose any sleep over Canada taking away his visa.

What is the end game for the coalition? It appears that they have made the decision to rule as an illegitimate government in order to maintain power at all costs. In the end it will be the Guyanese people who will suffer, they are the ones who will fell the brunt of the effects of sanctions.
