Salman Khan's yet-to-release Ek Tha Tiger continues to make news. According to latest reports, the satellite rights of the film have been sold for a whopping Rs 75 crore, a figure which, if true, could change the dynamics of the entire film industry with filmmakers now able to recover their entire costs through the sale of satellite rights alone.

But TV says not. Sneha Rajani , Senior Executive Vice President and Business Head of Sony Entertainment Television says, "Let me set the record straight. Sony had clinched the deal for the Satellite Rights of Ek Tha Tiger almost 15 to 16 months ago, not last week or in the recent past. In fact, we clinched the deal even before the Yash Raj commenced filming Ek Tha Tiger. Besides, do you think we would've paid this ridiculous price 15-16 months ago? We wouldn't settle for it even today."

While the actual price for the film is not being commented upon at the moment, it looks like the Rs 75 crore rumour may be unfounded especially in light of recent satellite right deals.

The satellite rights for Singham were reportedly sold for Rs 18 crore, an investment that clearly paid off with a 8.9 TRP for the channel on the day of its TV premiere.

According to recent reports, the satellite rights of Hrithik Roshan's sci-fi flick, Krrish 2 have already been sold for Rs 38 crore. His last release Agneepath was sold for Rs 41 crore.

That makes it two hit films with top actors, neither of which have crossed the Rs 50 crore mark.

While Salman Khan is at the top of his game at the moment, this short history dictates that Rs 75 crore rupees may in fact be too ambitious a figure even for the Dabangg Khan.

But, as history also dictates, never underestimate Salman - if anyone could smash all records in the satellite rights space then it has be this Khan.

Hollywood spy tunes jazz up Tiger theme song

By Priyanka Srivastava

The theme song of the Salman Khan-starrer Ek Tha Tiger has evoked mixed responses and a sense of dÃĐjà vu among the audience.

The Tiger Theme, an instrumental track composed by Julius Packiam, instantly reminds you of the title number of the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Don. As you explore deeper, you'll come across the track's striking resemblance with the background scores of the Mission Impossible series and the James Bond theme tunes.

Julius, who has also given the background score of the film, does not deny the fact that he has drawn inspiration from the Hollywood spy thrillers for composing the music.

'Hollywood thrillers have often provided reference music in Bollywood. This is a common 'chase' theme score, which is aimed at instantly informing the audience that the film is a spy thriller. We need to understand that the Bond theme track is the standard sound that strikes the mind when one visualises a faced-paced action thriller,' Julius said.

The track has been generating sufficient buzz ever since its release. The trailer begins showcasing Salman's dilemma in talking about his profession (of a secret agent) and then cuts to Istanbul where the actor is seen jumping off a building, bashing the baddies in James Bond style.

Salman's fans, who have noticed the song's prominent similarities with the Bond theme and the Don title track, do not seem to mind the inspiration.

'Kabir Khan (the film's director) wanted a fastpaced track with huge recall value as the signature tune of Ek Tha Tiger. I created almost 70 tracks to match Kabir's interpretation of Tiger's mind. He chose two of the tracks that have been divided into two parts as the title theme,' added Julius, who has also composed music for Kabir's previous films New York and Kabul Express.

The film's background music is a mixed bag of various types of electronic music. Since the film is shot in six different countries, the background score has been created, keeping in mind, the ethnic music specific to these countries. 'We have Arabian music to show Istanbul, Bass to highlight Cuba and dholak to symbolise India,' Julius added.

The Bond theme, has been an inspiration for most musical tracks in Bollywood thrillers and shades of the same are notably found in the film's music.

Ek Tha Tiger: Why Salman Khan isn't nervous

Mumbai: He's had four back-to-back blockbusters and expectations from his next release 'Ek Tha Tiger' are enormous, but Salman Khan appears quite oblivious to the pressure and says almost philosophically that whatever a film's fate, the audience is always right and must be entertained.

Following 'Wanted', 'Dabangg', 'Ready' and 'Bodyguard', all of which crossed the Rs 100 crore mark at the Bollywood box office, Salman is now ready with 'Ek Tha Tiger' that releases Aug 15. He isn't nervous one bit because all he wants to do is to entertain.

"I don't feel the pressure. If a film doesn't do well, it doesn't do well. Let's see in the next film... If a film is a hit, it's a good film, it is a terrific film. But if it flops, it's a bad film. (Whatever it is), audience is always right," Salman, looking relaxed in a white T-shirt despite being under the weather, told IANS in an interview.

"When I hear the script, I just want to be entertained. I just want twists and turns so that the audience should have some kind of entertainment - be it in romance, action, drama or any kind of entertainment.

"When the audience comes out of the theatres, they must say 'Wow, what a film'," he said of what he considers his reward as an actor.

In his over two decade career, Salman has dabbled in all genres - romance, action and comedy. But right now, the 46-year-old, who is recovering from a flu, admits he doesn't know what will click with the audience.

"It is a very dangerous position to be in right now because with next film, I don't know what to do."

"If I take up action, it would be like 'Again action!' If I go for a romantic film, then it will be like 'How is it going to work?'. If a script comes up which has a larger-than-life character, then people will say 'Isko koi mar hi nahi sakta hain kya (Can no one beat him or what?)... It will get boring."

However, he only believes in following his heart and, more importantly, his passion for acting.

"It is the passion. It's my job. I like my job, it's my hobby and I enjoy doing it," he said. "There is always a gut feeling (that) the script sounds superb, and so we go for it."

Salman is the rare star who has reopened the doors for single screens in today's multiplex culture. But he says quite categorically that he doesn't believe in the masses and classes culture.

"I only believe that it is about being in your comfort zone. If you have a theatre near your house and you have been watching films there since childhood, you'll go there only. There is no question of mass or class. One can afford and one cannot afford multiplexes because single screen tickets are cheaper," he said.

He is also one of the few Bollywood actors to have revived the old charm of a theatre full of cheering, whistling and hooting audiences. He brushes it off, saying he's just plain lucky.

"I'm just a simple person. Logon ne sarr pe chada diya hai (People have made me a star). (I am) just being lucky. It's just that I am in the right place at the right times, and many a times I have been in the wrong place at a wrong time," said the actor.

EK THA TIGER SOUNDTRACK

Following the soundtrack's release on July 19th, critics unanimously gave positive reviews to the album. Critic Joginder Tuteja felt that none of the songs "puts you off", but still emphasized that "one expected it to have gone all the way further up". He gave it 3.5 stars out of 5. Contrarily, the Indo-Asian News Service rated the album 4 stars and claimed that the audio "offers the listener the romantic and action flavour of the movie", calling it "an entertaining affair with an array of sounds for music lovers." However, the song 'Banjaara' was noted as a "an ordinary composition with overtly simple lyrics." Devesh Sharma of the Filmfare magazine felt that the album had a "situational feel" and was a "tad disappointing" as compared to the "pulsating music" in Khan's previous films. He rated it 4 stars
