It is interesting to note that the ELT (emergency locater transmitter) did not kick in upon impact. Elt's are invaluable to assist rescuers locate the downed aircraft unless the ELT was purposely turned off. I saw a 'Mayday' TV program where one of the pilots waited till the other left the flight deck and locked him out, turned off the ELT and crashed the aircraft in pretty much the same area as this one. The other reason could be that Boeing 777's are experiencing some problems of late but then there were no distress calls from the flight crew.
